I just read an update on Ivar's condition posted on his site by his son Ole. 1/10/08

Hey guys,

My name is Ole, and I am Odd Ivar's son. I thought I'd drop by and give you all a recap of what's been happening around here lately. I see faffi has given you the lowdown on exactly what went down, tusen takk for det Smile

His condition as of right now is... well, it's kinda hard to tell, to be honest. He's still breathing artificially, and we've yet to make any kind of contact with him, other than him responding slightly to our voices and physical contact. So we're still not sure how ye olde command center is doing, but the fact that they haven't managed to wake him up, or get him off the respirator, is not really a good sign. Still, there have been worse cases that have ended well, so we're still in good faith and keeping our fingers crossed.

On January 7th his condition worsened dramatically, and the doctors were pretty much sure he wouldn't last the day. His pulse and blood pressure were extremely low, and his body temperature went up to 41 °C (about 105.8 ºF), which the doctors believed was(/is) a sign of severe brain damage, which basically no-one survives. But he made it through against all odds, and now he's been stable for almost three days straight, leaving the doctors scratching their heads to no end. They're going to start bringing down the meds and slowly wake him up during today, but it'll take some time before we'll see how that goes, as the body needs some time to dispose of the various drugs he's been on the last couple of days.

Long story short, it's very critical at this stage, and it's pretty much impossible to predict what the next couple of days hold in store for us and him. But he's putting up one hell of a fight, so hopefully he'll be up and running that the end of it all Smile

On behalf of the family, thank you all for your care and support, and for the wonderful flowers Smile Things can get a bit dicey around here with frequent hospital visits and all, but I'll keep posting updates as things go along, for better or worse, as much as I have time to.

Let the good times roll, and drive safe out there!

- Ole

I'm terribly sorry to hear about this, as it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Odd Ivar has meant so much for KZrider.com over the years, always willing to share his vast KZ knowledge.

Hang in there, Odd Ivar!

New post by Ole, Ivar's son. Posted: Fri Jan 11, 2008 8:54 pm
Thank you all for your kind words and wishes, I'll be sure to pass them on to both him and the rest of the family Smile Also, while I will be updating you on everything that happens, for better or worse, if you have any questions I'll be glad to answer them. Just send me a PM and I'll answer as soon as I can find the time to!

He was doing somewhat better today than he did yesterday, his fever's come down quite a bit and he's been opening his eyes from time to time and seems to respond to things we say to him. He did scare the bejesus out of us around 9:00AM though, as we received a call from the hospital that he was hyperventilating and causing some ruckus, and that things were starting to get rather dramatic. So we basically just ran over there only to find him sleeping like a baby -- turned out he panicked because the respirator tube in his throat got clogged for a minute, preventing him from breathing. But it was an easy fix, and no harm done, so he's doing fine.

So we're basically back where we were before his second heart attack occurred, but he's not showing any signs of giving up, so hopefully these next few days will show some improvement Smile Keep those fingers crossed!

Cheers,

- Ole

Ivar is Gone!

This by Faffi, Sun Jan 13, 2008 7:05 am Post subject: R.I.P. Odd Ivar

"The rare and unusually beautiful person we know as Ibsen has left us. I have just received the incredibly sad message from his family that his life ebbed out just a short while ago. He will be sorely missed, a unique person with lots of warmth and time for others in a world that is quickly becoming colder and harsher."

Ivar no longer needs our help. Hopefully his family can find the strength to deal with their loss.
