My MGB GT is the cheapest cars I have to keep running. I can get almost any part I need the next day from a parts place in Portland Or. The car is very reliable and simple to work on.
That tempts me even more towards an MGB. Not shopping for a second car until I finish my bachelor's, but riding my KZ440 has taught me I do really want a small sports car. I want an option between a bike and my civic, something fun that doesn't require putting on a bunch of gear first. My list of potential cars is probably close to 40 cars long, miata is probably the answer, but a British roadster seems more raw in the ways I like about my old Kawasaki. There is also something comforting about how little my KZ440 is worth and the lower end of rubber bumper MGB aren't too much higher.
The MGB does have that raw feeling. It has manual rack and pinion steering and manual front disc brakes. You can feel everything on the road and there's plenty physical input from the car.
I've had my GT since the 06' and it's been a ton of fun. I'm slowly building up a .060" over 10 to 1 compression motor lightened rods, big valve ported head and a bunch of other goodies.
These cars are very robust. The drivetrain is from the Thames delivery van. When I got mine it was the best bang for the buck and because they made a half million of them the parts availability is unmatched. They probably are the still the best deal for a classic sports car.
