Got to be honest, by UK standards that looks like a bargain at $3k. When I bought my 82 ltd last year there was a 900ltd for sale that had no wiring, no top half of the engine, no switch gear, clocks, exhaust etc and he was asking £2500 for that !!!!!!!!!

By Irish prices and in euro i would all ready be doing burn outs and and figuring out where to park it in my house...
this is cheap by Irish standards.

For anyone who's interested I just went and looked at this bike. And left without it. Here's the public service message:

Appears to be all original. Inside of tank was clean. Started and ran decent I thought. Seemed mechanically sound. Carbs were supposedly just cleaned but one carb was leaking. He had trouble turning the petcock on and off. All lights worked etc. Electrical looked good. Would need the parts described in the owner's listing. Cosmetically decent with the typical pitting on chromed parts etc. Cracked tab on one of the side panels.

Unfortunately, IMHO, the owner isn't serious about selling it. I contacted him 3 weeks ago when the ad first popped up and it took me 3 weeks to pin him down on a time to see it. Didn't want to produce the title and wouldn't let me touch the title to see the VIN. I did eventually verify the VIN however and in all honesty think it's a legit sale. The gentleman is very COVID phobic and I'll just politely say has a very unique personality lol. I didn't even ask to sit on the bike because I'm sure he would've said no. I made him a good cash offer and a ridiculously generous second one. My second offer with cash in hand matched another he supposedly has but he declined that as well. He would only counter with his asking price of $3,000. I wished him well and left.

So to summarize, there's a decent, unmolested '79 Z1000 LTD still available outside Utica, NY as of today. Bring alot of cash and patience if you end up going to look at it. Best regards.

S.

It looks to be original from what I can see in the photos, except for the tank paint.  The pipes look to be in excellent shape.
I have a 1980 with a few mods, including a '78 head and '76 carbs.  I would not sell mine for less than $4,000 USD.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Those pipes are junk. #2 head pipe has the gasket flange rotted off.

Wow I can't believe you left without that bike! 12000 miles it's not even broke in yet. I would have pulled out 35 hundred dollar bills and drug that barn find home. I just wish it was closer to me.

I think someone is drinking their own stock, that bike is in the 12,000 range at best, hasnt even got a stock exhaust and as for 40 grand fully restored..moonshine. This super rare Z1Rs sold for £30,500 a year ago, i think that is a full fat price for that bike since it also didnt have the stock exhaust.

Probably a fun little bike, looks better than its KZ counterpart IMO. I imagine parts are super rare though.
