That first chart is the one I've seen before.  What amazes me is that there were only 130,000 Z1/KZ 900's made over four years.  How did they ever make money?
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

They should have kept some in reserve and sold them now!

I thought I read somewhere that the KZ900A5 was built in 1977 with leftover 1976 parts,  a bit of information that did not match my somewhat cloudy memory.  The charts seem to confirm my memory?

Wow thats real interesting, a lot less 79/80 1000st's than i thought, i always figured there would be twice that number, it might be the rare collectors bike in the future.

I read somewhere that the second chart is based on Kawasaki's financial year, which is March to March.  This would explain why there were so many Z1's in 1972 compared to the calendar year.

Think this way! $100 in 1973 adjusted to inflation today is worth about $622!
The 1st Z1's cost $1,999. in 1971 the New Ford Maverick cost that. That Z1 would be cost about $12,500 new today back in 1973's value
Or something like that?

Exact;y my thoughts Matt.  It does show 1976 KZ900 production in July, which would have been after the Summer Shutdown when normally the model change would have happened.
