Found a larger tank at the salvage yard for $75. The "Kawasaki" emblem mounts had been bondoed over so I had it chemically stripped and glass beaded for $30.00, which I thought was worth every penny.

An original tank for $105? If it is functionally sound, that is a steal!

It's 1/2 way across the country and I haven't seen it in person yet and it's all a mystery at this point. Dead battery, stale gas, no start so for all I know it could be a big POS, but for the price I thought it worth the risk. Worse case scenario I'm it all the money to get it right, or it just needs the usual "Old, been sitting a while bike" carb rebuild, tires, battery, brakes scenario. Hey, if you're going to roll the dice, roll large or go home. Right? It's going to a shop on Tuesday for evaluation.
If all turns out well I gonna do all the above plus new chain, wheel bearing repack and misc, ride it for a few weeks to see what shakes out and then ride it the 1800 miles back home.

Could be an original 76 LTD! No holes in rotors. Are those the Mitchell mags? 1 of a kind, 1 year, back rim Go by VIN# ? Your bike! Your decision!
It is past original. So at least know what you have.

I found the correct KZ900 LTD side emblems but unsurprisingly after 42 years the pot metal mounting pins were worn down shorter and thin. I thought mounting them as they were was just an invitation to having them fall off.

So, grinder in hand, I knocked what remained of the pins down and JB Weld(ed) Chicago screws from Tandy Leather to them and let it dry. I'm not worried about them flying off now!

nice score, like where your heading with it.
3m double sided tape works well for holding side cover emblems on.

I tried the larger 900 tank on my LTD and fits and looks good for longer trips if needed. Only glitch is that the bars hit the tank so you don't get full turn radius. At least on mine anyway. Looks good tho. The trees are a bit different and not sure what else is, likely the head stop. The red is such a great color.

Get your motor running!
