Just think of the open and closed valve springs over all of these years. And the corrosion, humidity, etc. on all the valve seats that sat open. Anyone who buys this engine will have to pull head and do a simple valve job and ad new springs. Plain and simple.
But I sure would like to have this engine. I'm in at $2,500. JMO! These engines, just seem to disappear!

I remember back in the spring of 1982, KMC sent out a Parts Bulletin to all U.S. Kawasaki dealerships by mail. This bulletin announced a warehouse close out on motor assemblies. They listed 1974/1975 H2 750cc triple, 1976 Kz900, 1977/1978 Kz1000, and I think some Kz400 motors. DEALER COST WAS 500 DOLLARS EACH!!!!!! I did a phone order as soon as I saw that parts bulletin. I ordered 2 Kz900, and 2 Kz1000 motors for myself. As soon as my owner got to the shop at his normal 1 or 2 in the afternoon, he told me to order 5 or 6 of each for the dealership. By that time of the day, all the H2 motors were gone as were the Kz900 motors. He did get the last 3 Kz1000 motors they had. Don't know how many motors Kawasaki did have in stock. They would not answer that question when I asked about it.

These motors were shipped by truck. They did not come in a wooden crate. Each motor came in a huge thick cardboard box filled with little bags of shredded styrofoam!!!!!!! If I remember right, they did sit on a small wooden pallet inside the box. The serial numbers on my Kz900 motors were Z1E 1389** I don't remember the Kz1000 numbers because I sold them long ago.

I liked building my Superbike motors with Kz900 cranks, cases, and engine covers. Then I used the Kz1000 barrels and heads. That setup was 11 POUNDS LIGHTER than using all Kz1000 parts!!!! At 500 bucks each, I could not even buy a crank and a barrel at that price. I sold the left over motor parts at full retail. I made out like a bandit!!!!

1977 KZ400 touring model: it has what appear to be the OEM bags and fairing. It seems to be in decent shape.

I had one of those KZ400 deluxe's, I don't see how Kawi could market it as a touring model. it could barely do 65 with me on it, but i'm a big boy. good lookin bikes though.
