I've never had any problems replacing DOT 3 with DOT 4 or even mixing them when DOT 3 is specified on the master cylinder. I've never read or had any issues where DOT 4 attacks older brake systems internally or deteriorates the rubber brake components. Of course, DOT 5 is a different animal entirely. Ed

I just don't see the need for a higher boiling point brake fluid period, UNLESS there is a need for it. You must really overheat those brakes there< Ed! I don't keep / use anything other than DOT-3 fluid, on hand, because other types are not recommended for ANYTHING I own, or even may encounter. When you have oddball stuff on hand, and you run out of the recommended fluid.. it's like... hmmm, why not use THIS? lol

I have run across brake systems where someone put the DOT - 5 in , probably thinking if DOT -3 is recommended, then the higher number brake fluid HAS to be an upgrade. It turned the entire system to MUSH, every rubber part needed to be replaced. Of course, I am sure the mortons at Jiffy Lube know everything about everything, just like the booger eaters working at the Zone, are actually ASE mechanics when they aren't selling chineese parts? right!

The reference to dot 4 fluid is not a selling point for me, and would make me leery of what else he "improved" while using the wrong fluids and selling off 100 bikes to make a sale.

 Not any more. There was a time when I really ran my bike hard, but I haven't done that in many years. For at least the past 14 years I've been using Prestone DOT-3 brake fluid in the bike. I change brake fluid every 2 - 3 years and have never experienced any problem with the brakes since I bought the bike in 1977 (61,000+ miles). Ed

Can't believe someone would take a S1, and convert it into a streetbike!!!!! Take a bike that is worth between 75 grand to 100 grand, and now can't sell it for 55 grand!!!! This is at least the second time it has been listed on Ebay. Yes folks two S1's did go to South Africa!!

What good does a bike like that do anyone to own it? From what I gather from reading his ad, is that he added a starter so that it could be ridden rather than pushed., Yet it has 200 whopping miles on it. Perhaps if you open a Kawasaki Museum, you can purchase it and sit and look at it. and look at it, and then admire it, then look some more, then look at it. Yes, if one of two made, it is rare, He has owned it for 20 years, and kept it in pretty good shape with a large investment. It looks in pretty good original shape. It s time for someone to rescue it, Spend $160,000.00 canadian, then look at it, then look some more, perhaps overhaul it, bore it out, put in some APE studs, and a set of wiseco's, then look at it, build a museum, then look at it. lol

Well one thing you can gather, is that a bike like that is useless, unless you want to sit around and polish it up and look at it, OR you could actually RIDE it. You can also gather that MY bike gets RIDDEN, and has a starter, license plates, and >gasp< INSURANCE.

YOU should BUY it, and open your very own MUSEUM, rather than posting on on KzRider how stupid everyone else on the planet is.

Kawasaki ran race teams to sell bikes to the masses, and yet this bike is only a close replica of most anything that they sold to the public.

I can't tell if this is the same bike, but it does not appear to be, from what I can tell, the article ls from 2013.

Street riding is no fun. Track days is where old retired racers like me take our "museum pieces" out and ride them as hard as we want to!!! No Cops, no oncoming traffic, no teenage girls texting, just ride as hard as you can!!! Just too bad my health problems make riding not possible for a while. I will be able to ride my "museum pieces" again in the near future if everything goes right!!!

OH by the way, the S1 was the CLOSEST thing you could buy to a factory Superbike back then. Or you could build your own Superbike. I fortunately was able to do both.

And I never called anyone stupid either.

Ahh, the 1/4 mile kaws, was just thinking about that today. The black guys down the South end of my city in CT used to race on a straight section of I95 at night -- no doubt for money, or maybe titles. These bikes did double duty as show bikes all chromed out and painted to the 9s and man you could hear them for miles away. And they loved the Kaws, one guy had a Honda 750. Don't remember any other kind of bike. Just Kaws. I'll bet they had 20k in those bikes.

Good memories.

How much are those new bikes with 200 hp and with a chip upgrade put out 300? That's what I'd get.

They might need the money to reface that afront to good architecture.

I do apologize if my knee jerk reaction came across a little terse. My point was that if anyone doesn't approve of what this person did with that rare bike, perhaps you sholud buy it it from him, and do what you feel needs to be done with it. Since he seems to be a motivated seller, you could work out a bargain on it, and start your museum. OR, take it to Barrett Jackson and rake in a ton of cash on it from some Jap collector. Either way, he sat on this bike for 20 years, and put 200 miles on it. 10 miles per year? Not exactly a smart way to invest.
BUT, much like that ugly house (only my opinion) he is free to do whatever he wants with HIS property.
