And this engine was sold ( overseas I believe ) to a guy who put the internals into a set of 'J' cases and restamped the cases with the original S1 serial numbers......... think he had to get a new CR gears too, that swingarm pivot really did a lot of damage, as Bob said. Am I remembering right, Bob, from what you told me - the guy who hit the S1 up the arse was from overseas and thought they had 2 warm up laps, not one, came flying over the hill to the start line, and everyone was griding up and clobbered the guy basically at full noise, sending him and the bike flying through the air!!! Do I remember right, master?

The guy that hit him was one of those french speaking furriners from Canada. He was late getting going on the warmup lap for one of the Superbike heat races Sunday morning. Guess he thought there was two warmup laps. He crested the hill on the main straight WFO, saw all the bikes gridded for the start, hit the brakes, and lost control of his Tz750. His sliding bike just missed Roberto Pietri's foot by inches who was in the last row, then by bike #261, and then hit the back of the S1. It knocked the rider and the bike 15 to 20 feet up in the air!!!! The AMA told him to pack his $hit up, and NEVER come back!!! I heard the furriner never even apologized to Ernie Kicklighter for what he did!!!!

And totalled not one, but 2 great bikes in the process!!!! It was amazing that no one got seriously hurt, I can see why the AMA told him to go back to where he came from as quickly as possible!!! Surprised the other local riders didn't take him out the back of the pits and teach him some proper racing etiquette.... LOL!!! Probably didn't apologise the Ernie because Ernie would have had to change his family name from Kicklighter to Kicktheshitoutta!!!!!
Thanks for giving us the full story again Bob. Surprised you didn't jump the fence and grab a few 'loose' parts....might have been handy when you bought your S1 for the following year!!!

There was a pretty somber mood in the Road America pits that Sunday morning. The night before at the Louisville Downs AMA National, a drunk spectator ran out onto the track, and was hit by David Jones. Jones died that night, and the spectator a few weeks late. I was standing next to Gene Romero as we were both waiting to watch the start when we saw and heard the crash. We both looked at each other, fearing the worse, neither of us could walk down toward the crash. Besides seeing both bike and rider 15~20 feet up in the air, the weird sound it made when both bikes came together. I will NEVER forget that sound as long as I live!!!

Not necessarily true Wayne.
As hard as I try I am finding a lot of apathy among our membership pertaining to taking a moment to leave a comment here for our Bike of the Month.
Just look at the very poor level or participation in voting in the next Bike of the Year. Under 40 votes !!!!!!
Im tempted to just start ignoring my traditional methods for picking BOTM and BOTY and just putting up what I want . Boy Oh Boy, If I did that the
folks that havent done any useful contributing would come out of the wood work and pitch a bitch LMAO.
Just Me venting , but maybe this will stir up the troops into action . ...
When I restarted doing the BOTM after a long period where it just sat abandoned there was a lot of interest and comments .
It was Fun. But now members seem to only comment on run of the mill topics , Some of which have been repeated every few months or years.
So Wayne , Your S 1 could very likely be the LAST Bike of the Year
