'76 LTD was created by BlackZ1R
I've found a good-very good condition '76 KZ900LTD for sale. Has typical issues with flooding carbs, leaky calipers, and a mediocre repaint in candy apple red. Has a silver ceramic coated V&H header with a chrome meg.
All the electrics are in good order and the engine seems to be fairly tight. But flooding carbs and possibly the wrong jetting for pods keeps it from sounding crisp.
I didn't have a chance to ride it or ride with it because of a rain shower popping up.
What it does have is the correct front fender, gauges, tank, and what appear to be the correct carbs. The fender has some rust and could use a rechrome.
He also has a set of LTD pipes on a '77 LTD 1000 that I may could talk him out of. He has air boxes too, so that wouldn't be a problem. The bike has drilled rotors that aren't correct for that year. Has a flat seat, but will come with an LTD seat. The Mullholland shocks are in a box, and appear to be in good shape, although the lower bodies have been repainted and no decals are on them.
The tank has two small dents in the top side of it, would be an easy fix. One of the original side covers had the top front tab broken off and has an aftermarket cover on one side. He has the original cover also.

The owner has thrown out what he thinks the bike would bring, but I have all but shot him down on the price because of all the issues with the bike. We're now at the make me an offer and I'll let you know if we can deal stage.
I don't want to shoot myself in the foot going too high or offend him with a lowball offer either.
I want some input as to what a bike like this would bring in your neck of the woods.
KZ sales aren't hitting on much around here, so my price may be low for a national average. Don't know.

Looks like a pretty nice bike Kevin. A couple of original 78 KZ1000s went for 4K each at auction here recently. What is his asking price?

kevin.
it seems to be very clean from the pic's!! i'm very partial to the 76 ltd's!!! think there way under valued for there rarity... i think if you could get it for between 1500.00 and 2000.00 would be a good deal. and give you plenty of room to get the carbs, and paint redone.. maybe a new header!!!
bids went up to around 4000.00 on a real nice one on ebay... reserve was around 4500.00 there was a nice one in indiana or illinois on craigslist for 3750.0000 nice original paint.. hey there was all repainted trim on ebay for sale too...
i have a 76ltd also and enjoy keeping up on them.. bet with winter coming on you can work out a deal!!!!!!! and by the location of master cylinder is the easy tell tale that it is an original ltd..
let us know if you get it??/ how much?? and your future plans!!
good luck!!

i mean really it is a kz900 by the time you restore it it is gonna be more than buying a correct one

unless you just want a cool kz900 cause that is what it is now imo

and it would be a cool one...cept the mags, peanut tank and weak shocks

but eye of the beholder i guess...v&h pipes are kinda not as bitchen as a kerker on a 900

Laguna, it's not just a 900. 900s are a dime a dozen. LTDs are where it's at :woohoo: :P  way fewer and further between.

Good points Vernons. Thanks for the input. $1500-2000 is my goal. Right now I see we are on the same page!!
I know it is an LTD. But it does have a few identity issues :silly:
The pluses are way more than the minuses on this bike. The biggest problem I see is the seat. Maybe you can tell me this one. Are the LTD900 seats hinge spacing unique to that bike?
PM coming your way.

The hinges are the same spacing. I'm sure of it. I've got my 900 ltd and I tried a regular 900 seat just to see if I liked it or not. Just pulled the pins and stuck it on. Not a big deal at all. Since you said he has airbox's......like plural......see if he happens to have one or twelve air silencers laying around. Would love to find one.....

Thanks for the seat info. vernons verified that for me last night. The bike has a new Z1 seat on it now. When I looked at the hinges there was only one screw in each hinge as the holes did not line up. I didn't have a lot of time to look at it, he may have had the wrong hinges, or the seat pan has the wrong hole spacing. He has other LTD seats that will fit the bike then. No biggie.
I have the seat off of my LTD on my KZ right now, so I know that works. Just didn't know if the 900LTD frame had specific hinge spacing, or possibly, different hinges ;)
I'll see if there are any more silencers in his stash. I saw one. What I did see was a set of 4-4 pipes off of a Z1 hanging up.
