Bill and Jim had a more eventful trip but arrived safe around 4 pm. Greg (Arai59) came to the show and we got a chance to meet him, a nice guy. We had our pictures taken with the flag and then I had to get started for home. I left at 4:30 and with a fast 25-30 mph tailwind I was able to comfortably cruise the 650 at 80-90 all the way home, taking only 4 hours and two gas stops.

The ride was great both ways for me, I rode 452 miles round trip. The weather began cloudy and 60's, but got up to 80 and sunny in the late afternoon. No rain at all on Saturday, but Bill and Jim may get some on Sunday when they ride back to Houston.

All in all, a beautiful fall day, lots of riding, saw some great bikes at the show, and got to meet great people from KZRider. The next hand-off is to 531blackbanshee (Leon) from the Tulsa area, sometime very soon.

Awesome job Kent Jim, Greg and Bill. You guys just filled a huge gap in the road to completion of the relay. I would have liked to have been there. A month ago I rode along that route from DFW to OKC on my way home from NM. Two more states off the list.

I hope the weather holds out good enough for a quick trip to Tulsa. Should be nice this afternoon, 'eh? (-;

Leon, you're up to bat. Oil yer chain and air yer tires, your going to ride west for a bit, soon we hope.

One more thing, where are the pictures?

Glad you had a safe trip ,that's a lot of miles for one day and just a head of bad weather.

Great timing, I hope other guys dodge the bullet too.

Jim,
Is the jacket patch like this one? These were sold on the forum a few years ago.

Bill will post the hand-off pics later. I took a few pics of bikes that I found interesting. To keep this KZ related, here is an old warrior that's still running.

Good job guys!! Yeah, Bill is a trooper on the CSR650. Lots of six-fiddys popping up in the relay!!!
Will this be the first Z1-R to participate in the relay once Leon gets the hand off?
Awesome. Wish now I had the '78 Z1-R a few weeks earlier. Would have loved to have had that involved in carrying the flag :cheer:

And another section of Leg 3 is now complete. The prior handoff took place several weeks ago, when BlackZ1R from Florence, MS, met me over in Louisiana, and I brought the flag home to Houston. Houston members BSKZ650, Mumbles, and Martin_CSR, came close to participating but were unable to, for various reasons.

Then yesterday, I carried the flag for another 54 miles to Conroe, TX, for a hand-off to JTMCCULLOCH. Jim then carried the flag 215 miles from Conroe to Dallas, TX. It was briefly handed off to ARAI59, and then on to OKC_Kent, who then rode about 235 miles back to Oklahoma City with the flag. Since this is such a motley crew, and I am the oldest of the group, I rode along to try to keep them from running amuck. Tough job, but we Got-R-Done. Here are some photos.

I haven't heard anything from the guys around me, I'm in Manhattan, KS, and still want in on the relay. I sent a couple of pm's, but does anyone know any tentative plans for the OK-KS, KS-NE routes/handoffs?

Am thinking KZr member dkmk will likely have current information about availability of patches.

Tom had a route planned out before that went North to South. Somehow Leg 3 got reversed, and now it is going South to North. I copied Toms route here, so if you just read it backwards you can see how it's going now.

Then the flag has to backtrack into the States and down to IA. I hope moneypit or bearshawk can get the flag into N&S Dakota. Crappiehuntr takes the flag to Bert75 who takes it to rainman who meets with readytoride1985/Snarky30 from the St. Louis area. JustinZ830 meets readytoride/snarky in west central MO. and gets the flag to Mac68 in NE OK area. Mac68 meets 531blackbanshee who goes on to meet OKC_Kent. From Oklahoma City the flag goes south to hook up with either WABBMW or BSKZ650 from Houston.

I have the flag and will get it to 531blackbanshee, who gets it to Mac68, who gets it to JustinZ830, who gets it to readytoride/snarky, who takes it to rainman, then to Bert75, then to Crappiehuntr.

I put up a proposed route a few pages back in this thread. From OKC_Kent in Oklahoma City to 531blackbanshee in Tulsa to Mac68 in NE Oklahoma, Mac68 cuts the NW corner of Arkansas and meets GhrtodR from Springfeild, MO. Then on to Snarky30, Readytoride1985, Rainman, over to crappiehunter in Ottumwa, IA, back east to Bert75, BlueJ58, then to Chicago with loudhvcx and ajkzbobber to hand off to WI.

As the season is getting short, I picked this route to engage the maximum number of riders in the shortest distance possible. It keeps the rides short and maybe some links with multiple riders involved.

The riders in Wisconsin, Minnesota, western Ontario, North and South Dakota, western Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas, will wait till spring with this route. The weather will (hopefully) be better for the longer distances between these participants. Comments and suggestions regarding the route are encouraged and welcomed. This coordination business is a group effort after all. Everyone is involved with planning your own section of the relay. If someone drops out or can't ride due to mechanical problems with there antique bike we have to increase the incremental distances between riders. I hope everyone who put a pin in the map can still participate.

I'm still having trouble veiwing the map. It won't load into my phone or my old laptop that I'm using now. My desktop computer croaked. I'll work something out soon, and I'll be PMing the upcoming riders before this weekend.

Lets do a sundance for Leon and Kent this Saturday.

Awesome, that's the main reason I asked... I'm planning to rebuild my bike this winter, and if I don't have to ride until spring I'll start this weekend. It should be back together by the end of February, so hopefully I'll still be able to participate!

I'm in Manhattan at the moment. Starting in May I'll be in the Hesston area, but no matter where I'm at at the time, I want to at least tag along with the flag. Where abouts are you?

I'm in Marseilles IL,

If that's Hesston KS there is a good chance the flag might make it through there before May.
It all depends on weather and ambition .

Good luck with the rebuild, how much work are you planing ?
