les holt wrote: Little updating needed. Got the seat in, it's okay but still not what I'm wanting, the fit isn't that bad but it could be better, I'll post a pic when I get the new camera in. Bumped the pilot jets up to 22.5 from 17.5 and changed out the air bleeds to .6 from 1.0's, BIG difference but still need to sync them. Hoping the new plug wires will be here by the week end but not important, it still runs. Going to be cooler here the next few days so I'm spending time in the shop, new toys there too. B)
Oh, and goo gone took the chain lube off like it was nothing.

Here are some pics with the seat on. I'm not happy with the fit over the tail but otherwise not bad.

I've got the airfilters off cleaning and reoiling, I didn't have a filter on the crankcase breather, made a couple hard passes and they had a little motor oil on them.
As for the carbs, I went with the 33 smooths. I've run the RS34's on other bikes and still prefer the 33 smooths. They are a bear to tune but I think they run better. I had never tried the .6 air bleeds till now and they do seem to help but the bog is mildly still there but common sense fixes that. Idle is a little rough but not so bad it's a problem.

Yes I see what you mean @ the rear of the seat. Are the seat bracket bolt holes slotted, I wonder if you could tweek it a bit to line it up better or lengthen the bracket holes Les. It also looks sorta wrinkled where the driver sits, maybe it will tighten up later on. Still is the nicest looking seat on the market IMO.

The wrinkle may be from the rake on the frame. Guy out of Indy done this some years ago, cuts a section out of the backbone, pulls the neck back then cuts the tank mounts off and moves them back to clear the front end like original so the seat is pretty tight with the tank being slid back some. I really never checked to see if the holes were slotted but I did have to brake one loose to get it mounted and really didn't notice too much play to suspect slotted holes. I was going to get another seat recovered to simulate this one but fix the gap but right now my extra time is in the shop working. As for comfort I really like it, it's fairly firm which I like and fits me pretty good. I'm 5'10 about 180 so pretty much should fit an average build person.

those wrinkles should disappear once it sits in the sun a couple hours. we used to use a steamer when I had my shop and steam em you could watch the wrinkles disappear about the only wrinkles that wont go away are on a cover that is too loose or pulled or sewn wrong those will go away no problem.

i has the vm33's as my last carbs. i liked them too. i like the rs34's that i have now better though.
what about putting the new foam and skin on an original pan?
OMR had to move his seat back after moving the tank back for mor neck clearance.

That was my plan Mark, I was going to take 2 seats I have and this one to copy and have them fix the fit around the tail but with the bike running it's hard to let this one go. I may just take one other and this one to get modified so I can still ride.
I think the 33's pull harder all the way thru and possibly idle better when you finally get them set. I would like to try a set of cr33's and may do so later.

Well I'm holding off on the seats for now and going to ride as is. Only thing left is license plate holder but it's done, just not mounted. Thought I'd wait till after giving it a bath.
Just to say, I'm pleased, I do wish I had stretched it another 2 inches but it looks pretty good as is.

Okay, a little updating and thanks for the compliments!
I've got some good miles on it and it has been pretty flawless! I haven't had the first issue other than keeping it clean. What changes I'm making is purely for me other than it is still a little rich at idle and just off idle but I haven't addressed it yet, maybe this weekend. The ride is a little rigid so I'm changing out the ZX10 linkage to ZX6. Maybe it will help this thing hook which has been my biggest complaint but it's very stable and predictable when doing it. Although it's fun as hell it's only going to get worse when the spray goes on. Also changing out the back tire to the shinko 003 when I do the linkage. The steering is pretty lazy and kinda wants to snap over when trying to turn around but at speed it's better than the old kaws but no sport bike. Between the 5 deg. rake and low offset trees, it may have been a little too much. Now I'm thinking about another set of trees with more offset. Performance wise ain't bad either, I have to take off like grandma or the tire is gone. It doesn't seem to have a problem hitting the rev limiter in 5 gear at all and gearing is 18/38. I started with the limiter set at 8,500 but I'm up to 10,000 now, still making power but that's as high as I'm going. OH, and them brakes are the cats meow! This thing stops on a dime.
So to wrap it up in a nut shell, I'm ready for the relay, I trust this thing anywhere!
