What's it worth to ya? was created by testarossa
I'm not selling, I'm buying. Looking for collective experiences, and price guesses. The particulars 1982 Honda CB750f. 22000 original miles, clean title, 100% survivor here, no resto, 100% stock, still in factory paint. The carbs sidecovers, and airbox are missing in the pictures, but he has them and the carbs look clean. Typical issues for a 29 year old bike. Paint has small scratches and chips, but still fair. All the plastic is straight, no cracks, no missing tabs. Chrome is good with some tiny surface spots. I scraped a couple with my fingernail, and they came right off. I bet the chrome polishes out with almost no pits. There is a tiny rash spot on the right muffler, and the head pipes have some small dents on the bottom, but it is a complete, stock exhaust. Hasn't run since 1992, so the usual. Leaking fork seals, sticky brakes, chain needs replaced, tires dry rotted, oil needs changed. He jumped it off and it spins freely on it's own starter, and the cranking exhaust generated seemed even between the two tailpipes. It does have some funk in the gas tank. Unfortunately, it still has some 1992 vintage unleaded in there. He opened the gas cap and George Clinton popped out. :)

So what do you think? What price would you pay? I like the style, but have zero experience with this model. Any serious bugaboos to watch out for?

it is worth more than what i say...and as always... it is all location and need and timing...but that is one cool one and one tiny tank dent does not a good paint stock tank make so...we are not bidding on a cherry stocker...but a nice leftover with very much going for it....

they can be found running a nice one for 1500-1800 could be found if a person was lucky....

400 and you could throw a bunch of 100 dollar bills at it until it is a legal registered and clean cb750F brob hit 2500 easy 2500 and it would be a sweet little heart breaker

like my GS1100E i will have a 4500 GS before it is even close to over...lol

Non-Kawasaki bikes are generally not my interest but within Honda...a few models always turn my head (CL72, CL77, CB750-K0, and any CB F-series bike). That said, your opportunity, depending upon how inflated the current owner's opinion of the bike may be, might be valued at anything between $1000 and $2500...probably more towards the low end. :)

Oh, I have Mark. Already a member at the CB1100F site. BTW they cover the 1100, 900, and 750s. Just trying to get a non Honda-file opinion. I think I'm going to get it. It's the basis of a really clean 100% correct bike.

The electricals have some issues. Honda charging systems are the most problematic ones I've dealt with, but there are likely more available parts for those than Kaws. Also the electronic ignition is problematic. It's design, in my opinion was inferior to the kaws, even though it's made by the same company (Tec). With age, the potting tar in the igniters oozes out.

Some members on the cb1100 forum asked me to make a substitute system. I designed two: one with stock (or similar) coils, and one using GM coils (which are dirt cheap, like $20). If you get the bike, you may want to look into it. (I'm not sure if it covers 1982 or not, but likely does.)

Another issue I've seen on more than one of the 750's was the transmission losing a gear. I'm sure transmissions go out on all makes, but over the years I don't recall coming into contact with any bike with a bad transmission except Hondas. (My friend was riding his CB350 with missing 3rd gear when it locked up and spit the con rod out the front. The girl he just met, and was giving a ride to, was not happy with being covered in motor oil. )

These are still relatively rare problems, but just the ones I've personally seen. I'd still recommend getting it if the price is right.

Thanks for the candid advice Lou. I briefly looked at both of those links, and it seems easy enough that I could work it out. I'm not sure how bad I want anything associated with a Cavalier on one of my bikes, but a man has to do what a man has to do. Cavalier, yuck! So has anyone actually tried your setup on a bike yet?

Didn't one of the members here have a 750F? I think his screen name is Cobura or something like that. One of the Japanese guys. I haven't seen him on the forum in a while.

Yes, but only on the setup with the Pontiac Grand Am coils. (Hows that? at least a small step up from Cavalier :) ). Pretty much most of GM cars from that era used them, but not sure if we can claim "Corvette coils".

One guy on the CB1100F forum actually has a kit with mounting brackets and small harness for the coils and igniters. I'm not sure if the bracket would fit on 750's or not, but the harness should work. His username is PGSmick. He did the on-bike testing while I was coming up with designs. I have yet to actually see it working on a real bike, but have received several emails form people confirming it works.

I can't remember if anyone ever confirmed the stock coil setup. Seems everyone wants to save $$$ on coils. I list the stock coil ignition as "proposed", but the Cav coil one is confirmed to work, though I'd like to do some thorough testing on a real bike, in person.

Alright, I'm leaving to meet with the guy for the second time. I should be able to make it happen. Wish me luck!
