It is the only bike I have ever sat on that I wasn't cramped on, I am 6'5" 280 lbs, so I can finally not be all bent out of shape after sitting on my kz for 5 hours. I can ride this and not really care about it, all the while keeping my kz clean and shiny taking it out on weekends and special rides. The only hiccup is that I can't afford to insure both right now...I am going to have to have only one on the road for now (klr) and wait for my kz to officially be 30 years old, wait for me to get my full M license, and for me to be 30 years old, and then hopefully the insurance will drop. I thought the KLR would be cheap to insure, but here in ontario they just rape us...the range of insurance for the KLR was 760 (which was likely a mistake on the quote) to 1200 for the year, I pay 1050 for my kz1000...Once insuring both together will be 1000 I will get both on the road. Kind of sucks, but I can deal with it. The kz will finally get to take it easy while being taken care off and kept looking good.
Are those just for liability?

There is a fellow who hunts in the Sam Houston National Forest off of a KLR. He has those square aluminum hard bags, and when he takes a deer it gets draped across those bags for the ride home. Now that's a versatile motorcycle. I have always wanted to stop him and have a conversation, but alas we have just passed on the road a few times.
How long does it take to get a full M license in Canada? We just get a license here once you pass the MSF course and take the written test. No restrictions after that. That's a shame about your insurance prices. Are those full coverage or liability? I can get liability for about $120 per year here, but I'm over thirty. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Anyways, I just got the bike home. I have to say I love it. Not to sound like a Hardley Ableson rider, but this bike has character. It is slow and steady, but for me it is as comfortable as I can be on a bike. After a quick wash it looks quite nice, I suppose being "only" 15 years old helps Everything works great, I just have to get used to the thump, my kz inline 4 is soooo smooth compared to this, but this certainly has oodles of usable torque. I took it through the field down by the river in my back yard and it was a dream, I love it! The paint is all original, circa 1995. As mentioned a chip and pepper t-shirt, flip flops, and some oakleys and I could be on the set of Baywatch for sure!
All I need now is to do the doo-hicky and the thermo-bob and let the farkling begin!
