How much weight can be lost?

I was just wondering if anyone had any guesses as to how much weight could be shaved off a kz650?

I shaved about 175 pounds off mine when I divorced my first wife. :laugh:

But to answer your question you could lose 20 to 25 lbs with a change from stock exhaust to 4 to 1 pipe. Another 20 to 25 lbs with lighter hubs, rims and brakes. Mayb another couple of lbs with change from airbox to pods. Even more loss if you pull the starter. So I would say 40 to 50 lbs with those changes, maybe more, but not as much as ED lost. :whistle:

Seriously…… to what lengths do you want to go to?

Had a mate who raced, he went to the extent of drilling out (holes through the bolts) all the bolts that were possible to lighten off about 1-2lb….. if he was lucky!

A guy at ZRXOA replaced nearly every bolt and nut, his axles, and a host of other parts with titanium ones that he machined himself. How far are you willing to go?

x2 thats my feeling too pretty much....lotta other street gear/ junk can go...this pic shows a 1000 in race trim and many d.o.t type items are gone...same bits can be lost on the smaller kz's easy....

from there folks used to drill holes in stuff...i always wondered how much weight they really saved drilling holes all down the length of the rear brake pedal...i would skip those scary moves imo.....

HMMMM.... A road race bike that must make big horsepower over a fairly wide rpm range and that must deal with headwind, tail wind, side wind, butt wind, and no wind, does not seem to be using the stock air box. OH, MY! :ohmy:

So true, and it doesn't even need an alternator. And I bet the rider runs it in heavy rain, sits at red lights, drives it at partial throttle and low speeds in traffic, etc. etc. Oh no, what's that you say, it's a single purpose race bike, I never would have guessed.
