Perhaps throttle cable has frayed inside and started hanging enough to prevent full closure.

Good Fortune! :)

Yup, it was mysterious. He rode down from Big Rapids a.o.k. Met up, rode a couple miles, I stopped for gas, he bought a red bull. Took off and rode a block, took off from a stop sign, he goes flyin' past honkin' and wavin', hits the kill switch and there we are. Throughout the whole ordeal the throttle/twist grip seem to have proper action. That's what threw me off in the first place. Throttle screw spring is there and seems fine. I think the throttle cable housing was either not seated properly when he rode down or it got unseated when he took off from that stop sign. Also that Yami doesn't have a push/pull two cable set up.

I think I know what might be going on....maybe…

the pic below is a set of carbs off an xj650 turbo and looking
at the manual which covers the turbo and supplements the stock,
it too has a single cable as pictured…..
this looks like the same cable arrangement on the standard carbs (circled in the pic)
also where by it slots into the housing…
if yours looks like this then we may be on to something.
I am on the understanding with this arrangement that if the cable isn’t routed
properly through the frame then adjustment can be difficult and can result
in the cable housing jumping out of the bracket and resting on the edge…
happens when you take off for example and the cable housing slides up
with the cable and rests on the edge, now you have wound up the cable
about a ¼ throttle and off she keeps going…..

Given everything I have written though, I could be so far from being
on the money that I should never gamble so to save a little grace please if I may…….

Answering a forum question can be best described as follows:
I work as a power steering technician and 90% of the customers are mechanics.
Answering a forum question is like me at work trying to fix a power steering problem
over the phone with a mechanic…believe me its much easier with it in my hands,
any other way is virtually impossible to solve a problem.....

Get this, I’ve even had mechanics making the sounds
over the phone or sticking the phone next to the car to listen to it….

“can you hear that sound buddy” hear what?….
it sounds like a fricken jumbo jet on the other end with the amount of background noise…..or this….

”chugga chugga chugga doosh doosh doosh!
….that’s the sound it makes buddy, do you know what’s wrong with my pump?”

yeh! the idiot on the other end of the phone……
although I must admit it does make me laugh when that happens….

”chugga chugga chugga doosh doosh doosh”

Arrrhhh hahaha hahaha hahahah hahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah……

“sorry what was that sound again, sir”

”chugga chugga chugga doosh doosh doosh”

arrrhhhh hahaha hahaha hahaharhaha
hahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah………

“Sorry sir don’t know…you will have to send the pump to us for repair”

Yeah, that looks real similar to what he had, but when I think back, I remember checking for that when it first happened...or maybe I spaced it and just thought I did:ohmy: Anyway, we took all that apart and put it back and still had the problem until I loosened up the adjuster on the twist grip. He had it screwed out all the way, I screwed it back in and adjusted the idle speed with the screw on the carbs like is proper. I don't know how it got screwed up.
