one thought... If you wanted a newer bike, I had a 2005 Z1000. It was unique, sounded tough, had loads of power, not much plastic, insurance was cheap, comfortable...wish I wouldn't have sold it...

You guys are too cool.B) Thanks for your kind comments.
I'm allways impressed with how friendly, and helpfull KZriders are.No other bike gets this much support. There's no GSrider.com,or CBrider.I give my buddy a hard time,he's on a 77' GS750.
I wasn't really asking if i can stay.I've got 20 years on a KZ,that's probably more than alot of members. :)

I loved everything about that KZ...exept the shortage of power.I was thinkin hard about a bore kit,Hi-po cams, bigger carbs etc before i wrecked it...20,or 30 more HP,and i would've been in heaven.

I think the ZXR has enough KZ in it to feel right.

"I've had a few wrecks over the years and the broken bones that can come with them. Nothing will sway me from riding as long as I'm alive. As much as I Iove my old KZs, I'm afraid I don't love them enough to ever ride them as an only motorcycle again. If the KZ650 was my only motorcycle and I wrecked it, I'd look into a much newer motorcycle for an everyday transport.Never thought I would think this way and I still ride a KZ650 all year around to work. It's a work bike to me and nothing more anymore. If you have the money, it's more wisely placed towards more modern equipment if you plan to ride much."

Dammit,your right Ron.
My everyday riding friend steve and i have been pushing HARD to keep up with less experienced riders on newer machines for years.I remember times where we didnt drop below 7 grand for miles. We lost ground in straights, but would make it up dancing into corners under hard braking, and wobbling out under full throttle.
Steve bought his 77' GS750 in 1990,the same year i got mine.He has alot to do with why i never upgraded. We threw racer bars,V&H pipes, and pods on both early on and went to work.We seemed to be the only pre-80' bikes left in kansas city after 2000...we liked representing the older generation bikes.

The years have made me goood at long, tire smokin, clutch burnin wheelies.I didn't mind lining up next to stuckup R1 pilots at stoplights.I got to hand it to the 650,the original clutch never slipped.B)

Sorry im bragging, but you guys are the only ones who can relate.I deserve a new bike. That stuckup R1 pilot should be on my 650 dammit.

Sorry for your loss. :( Glad to hear you survived a near death experience. Now....it's time to UPGRADE to a Z1/KZ 900/1000. :woohoo:

Why would anyone consider that an "upgrade" ?

I am glad you survived and seems to be doing well. I say go ahead and get the new bike, but also get the 650 back. It shouldn't cost to much to buy back. Just hang onto it for a few years and see if you change your mind about ditchin the old girl.

I may be lookin to upgrade to USD forks this winter, I have a mint set of 650 forks that were rebuilt 4 seasons ago that will be lookin for a new home :)

Just don't get rid of the bike before you are sure it is better off gone.

bought it because I was told it would never run again...I like to prove people wrong.

IF you rode the bike for 20 yrs and crashed it
just think would my bike leave me all fucked up?
Fix the bike its the correct thing to do
they dont make em like that anymore
then get a new bike and go really fast
and when you get tired of that youll say "man i love my old KAWI Im so happy I brought it back to life"
If its done right we only get to ride these bikes while we are alive we only keep care of em for the next guy
the beauty in having a old Kawi is knowing that it will still run long after you are gone
just make sure it goes to the right person
Fix it
do it just do it
PS Ive also woke up at the hospital my first question was "hows my bike?"

78 KZ1000
76 KH500 gone

i'm not forced to ride and it must be fun for me to do it......crashing and ragdolling are not really in my older riding days game plan....

glad your okay.......few can say they "woke up"...in a hospital....

Sissy, I've woke up in the hospital twice. Once from a car wreck and once from a bike wreck and I still drive both.

I say to fix her back up, I fixed mine back up and my bike was jacked.

Your profile says "KZ pilot forever".........
I'm also glad you made it. Doesn't a twenty-year friend deserve the same? 650 parts are cheap and everywhere!
