Free enduro xt550....gonna have questions.

Some folks moved into a cottage next door and the guy said they had an old enduro...they only know/like to work on two strokes...dirt bike guys....they saw my MKII when i had it out on the bench and liked the motor re-painting and fin details i was doing when they drove by and saw it...so....they figured they had lost interest in the enduro and i would be the type of guy to not just throw it away...early the story was that it was complete and had extra stuff..but the owner hyad given it to them with no papers...

I said sure not seeing it yet!!!

turns out it is not siezed,reads around, 14somthin miles on the speedo,comes with everthing and an extra ignition,manual,triumph 650 manual just for extra ...and an extra tank...

The bad:
i will have to find the owner who is local and try and get some papers..or do the dmv out od system new title deal which here is not too bad....and i gotta see what is gonna be needed to make it run..oh...and it takes me years to do somthing usually....this one has my interst though as i always wanted an enduro ,being strictly street scared me the few times i rode one i nearly flipped em or spun- washed out the rear...

The good....seat is new ,fenders are intact,,,everything is there signals instrumants and the stuff under the seat looks to be in good shape...only where weather and moss could grow is it showing how it was stored...manual and extra gear...and it is a cool old school top monoshock design and yamaha's proven thumper 500/600..
supertrapp cap on the exhuast and tires are decent ...not rotted or worn down ..so ...i am gonna clean it like a restore..paint and detail stuff and then start and see where we're at...

that is some kind of tree lichen or moss on the fender...this is gonna be a diamond in the rough i hope...i like the fact that it is way dirty and coated with moss ,but,complete and not broken or crashed...a perfect barn find deal imo...everything un broken ect...

i kicked it over and it was strong on oooomph and no grinding or clicking ect...

even has an old school enduro water bottle that can clamp on the frmae rails...lol

anyone with any info on these yamaha thumpers please chime in as i know nothing about em...i like it thoguh and am happy i got it...peace

Very cool! The big thumpers are a lot of fun, a taste of real off roading without being too nuts. Have fun!

thumpers are a blast. in the past i had a xt500. my last one was a honda xr600. regeared it and put on street tires...supermoto style. was going to get an extra set with enduro tires on it to be able to switch back and forth. but then i got the old KZ bug back. plus electric start is such a great innovation, especially after a 12 hr nite working!

thats how i used to ride the 500 i had,on the back wheel out of control most of the time,although i was never stupid enough to stand on the seat while doing it ! :laugh:
dont forget the compression release lever when ya go to kick that pig over! :woohoo:

Just make sure this doesn't happen, (my XL600R after)
