I haven't been before either. I read an article about last years in MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS. Looked to be a real goo d time. Plus, my band has played in Milwaukee several times and it's pretty much the shit every time. I dont have a KZRIDER shirt yet, I'll be reppin' mah clique with a DERRINGERS WHEEL CLUB shirt though. We're lookin' for a place to stay the night. Camping in downtown Milwaukee?:silly:

Hey Roy-b-boy-b ...what do you know about the ferry? Don't you live in Kentucky? Just curious cuz it's really kinda expensive.

I don't know about the ferry but I have drove through Chicago for years until I refused.

It's probably fine driving by now as I'm sure all the construction is finished.

Heh yeah right. This year a bunch of really huge road reconstruction projects were started. At the end of June, all of the contractors went on strike.

So essentially the projects were abandoned with traffic lanes closed for a month (so far). Talk about frustrating and dangerous! There are no shoulders. You have to drive inches from a concrete wall on one side and inches from an 18 wheel on the other.

Oh and even though there is not one worker around, they are still giving out the tickets for speeding (over 45mph)in a "work zone".

So now wherever they were going to put in concrete, all of the rebar is totally rusted, and who knows what else is messed up.

What else would you expect from Illinois?

A lot of the construction this year won't affect your trip. 290 is bad. 355 is bad. But you won't need those.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about what is under construction on the south side. Last week I took I57 from
Blue Island to downtown and it wasn't too bad at 10pm. 95th (which is also rte12/rte20) might be a good alternative if you're through there early morning. By afternoon it could be pretty ugly. I'm not down there on Saturdays ever, but Rush hour can mess up 95th on weekdays.

If you are taking 294 to bypass the city entirely, my buddy did that recently and said the south end closer to Indiana was a terrible ride. All trucks and nut-jobs. I've always hated that stretch of 294.

If you take 95th to 94 and head straight up through the city, you'd probably be ok if you're early. Saturday from about 10 or 11am on is a toss up. Depends on what events are happening in the city.

Up north, the stretch of 94 from Chicago to where it splits off from 41 is new and perfect. The stretch from 41 to where it meets 294 is supposedly under major construction (which is needed because it has craters in it the size of bowling balls). That stretch is called the 94 spur. (On the map it's the stretch that runs east-west from 41 to 294). Avoid that.

I'd recommend 94 which turns into 41/94, then stay to the left to stay on 41. 41 was pretty good the last time I was up near the border about a month ago. 43 is also ok, but may have some stretches with minor construction. Eventually 41 and 43 all merge back into 94 near the border. You might take your chances there and see if it's clear above that.

Last year 94 was under major construction, but I haven't checked the progress this year, so I don't know if it's done or almost done. If you take 41 or 43, you'll miss most of the construction on northern 94. 41 has stops in it, but at least it's scenic (for Illinois :) ).

I haven't been into Wisconsin at all in about a year.
