Move up to 1983 1100 LTD? was created by robert1083
Hi, I have been riding for 1 year on a 1983 750 LTD, chain drive, highway and local, although I prefer highway. I also took the MSF course. I have been thinking about a different bike, as mine has electrical/safety issues: headlight and turn signals don't work sometimes due to wiring issues in headlight, horn never works, and a lot of the gauges don't work. I am 6'1 athletic 190 lbs. I was looking at a 1983 KZ 1100 LTD shaft drive. Would this be significantly heavier than my bike? Also, what do you think about moving up to the more powerful 1100? BTW, the bike I'm looking at also has engine guards and highway pegs, which I don't currently have.

If you're on a 750 now and you move up to the bigger 1100 shaft you won't even be worring about the weight. You will be jazzed about the smooth powerful response that you'll be getting from just twisting the throttle. :P The weight differance will disapear within a couple of days, and you'll be wondering what you were worried about to begin with. You'll love the bigger bike.:woohoo:

The 1100 Spectre has ergos designed for a rider no taller than 5' 9".

Ride it for more than a few miles before you commit.

You also lose horsepower in a shaft and lose the ability to change gearing. I'm not saying either is horrible, just to make sure you are aware.

Shafts are also practically mantainence free.
