a member here or on another site (can't remember) posted an article from a while back about a guy who still does 'sand bending' or something along those lines. He packs the pipes with sand, heats them up and bends them by hand. Looked pretty cool and with practice could probably be as good as a pipe bender. I'll have to see if i can find the article...

What you folks here call "expanded curve" are in Japan called temage, which stands for "hand bent," meaning the header portions are bent by hand and not manufactured by machinery. These hand bent pipes are much more pricier than the normal machine bent pipes, i.e. the ones with the two 90 degree bends with a length of straight pipe inbetween.

I'd wager there are no exact measurements for the header portion of the handbent pipes, so go ahead and bend away. A nice graceful curve which allows for the smooth flow of gases is what you are looking for.

You can only be young once, but you can be immature forever!

Thanks for the encouragement guys... B)

It will be a ways off till I get to this for have a whole slew of other more important crap to do first... Just came across this in a discussion with Plum and thought whoa, that would be totally cool to pull that one off...

Freakin probably cost me more than I could just buy one  but would be sweet just the same...

Ah well more research to go yet... I do like the sand fill bend idea for that would seem to definitely work.... The mandrel uses a inner material that would be pretty much the same concept during the pipe bend, keep the pipe from creasing versus curving/bend...

Hmmmmm.... me wonder! :woohoo:

I've got a near mint Nico Bakker pipe from Holland that I'm trying to find out more info on. Bought it from one of the fine members from here.

I to would like a real Yosh pipe for my arsenal. Along with a Bassani from the era.

That is 1 pritty pipe Dave. I love the hand bent look. for me it could only be better if it swept upwards at the end, so it finishes above the rear axle.:woohoo: :woohoo:
Excuse me, i must go dry off now.
I have a spare Yosh pipe myself, not the hand bent type though. unfortunatly , with my wider swingarm, i cant try it out, without modifiing it. there always seems to be somthing higher on my priority list, and the pipe stays at the bottom of the list. If only i could find that money tree.

Yoshimura ( Pops & Fujio days) hand bent the pipes seen on most of their superbikes, especially on the Zuks. The pipe from the catalogue was the street version sold by Yoshimura and Dale Star who owned the Yosh name/product line for a while in the 70's.

Moriwaki had the nicest hand bent pipes for the Z imho.and looked a lot like the one posted by OMR.
