I have a 76 kz900 with a fresh 1200cc motor and ALL of the goodies u could want for a street bike.see my avitar.
i also have an 01 cbr600. they are a very close match for power in a straight line. the cbr will kill the kz in the turns.

I have an 80 kz1000 with a 1200 piston and some goodies too. I've been able to get the jump on a few newer 1000cc sportbikes (2nd gear roll ons). but I always manage to get walked down at higher speeds. :(

Thats right. we just dont have enough to keep up with a 1000 all the way through the gears, once they get the revs up, they say good by. but a 636 is an even match.

Finally had a chance to run the bikes, both need some work done. Around town, I can stay with her 6R somewhat. We went from a 50 mph roll start last night and she smoked me. :( "I think we're going to need a bigger boat". The seven fiddy needs more muscle.

Are you going to shoehorn a modern engine into your Kz750 frame?

It's going to be tough to make it work. The modern motors sit at an entirely different angle than the kz frame is designed for. Aside from the physical mounting questions, you're going to run into issues getting exhaust to clear the frame because it's coming off such a weird angle once you get the modern motor into the frame. Plus the modern carbs are designed to sit at an angle along with the motor, so you'll have to work around that as well (or go EFI by running that new of a motor). Not saying it can't be done, because it always can be with enough ingenuity and know how, but it's going to be a mean trick to pull off. Keep us posted!!

1 thing that would be important to "ME" if i were searching for a new motor, would be side clearance.
it wont be hard to find more horse power, but dont neglect a more recent narrower motor. if u stay in the eighties, they will still be wide. the reason i suggest this, is due to cornering clearance. i have lots of power with my 1200cc kz ,but lack the ability to keep up with the new bikes in the corners. it would be sweet if u could find a motor that would give u booth power, and cornering. Good luckB)

I always liked this combo.
KZ chassis with a FJ1200 motor. Lots of power hop up options too.
Power 130 HP at 9,000 rpm
Torque 70.1 ft/lb at 7,000 rpm
Stock!
