My GF bought an '01 ZX-6R about a month ago. What do I have to do to my KZ750 to beat her from a stoplight? I already have rebuilt carbs, a jet kit and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust. I'm thinking a 810 big bore kit, a ported head, Webcams #118 cams and larger rear sprocket. What do you think?

I think even if you do all of than, and add a 20hp shot of nitrous she will still eat you for lunch.

A zx6 is gonna put out about 110 hp at the rear wheel. Dave Sloan has a hot kz650; 810, cams, head done, fuel injection and some other nice tricks... last I heard from him he was up to 90hp at the rear wheel.

These air cooled bikes cannot do what the new bikes can; and if you do get it to 120 hp on motor alone you will have a maintenance nightmare on your hands.

All that said, my goal is 100hp at the rear wheel come hell or high water!!

I think I'm wondering about the motive of your g/f to get a bike with only 100cc less and 20 years newer!

Put it this way -- a kz1000 from 1977 (my 2nd bike) put out about 83 hp at 8000rpm.

A 2008 Kaw zx600 put out 98hp at 12,000rpm.

I'd detune the g/f (oops, not p.c. sorry there....)

In all seriousness:
1) assess the motive
2) get a bike like hers
3) but tweak the computer a bit with an aftermarket software patch or a chip
4) She'll think you're magic again

And her bike with a good rider will run the 1/4mi in the 10.70 - 10.90 range. If our bikes were running those times it would not even be street legal! ;)

Find a new girlfriend with a slower bike, or trade bikes for a little bit and beat her with her own bike..:P

Take an ice pick and plunge it into her tires, then she can not beat you. You could ride her around town on your classic Kawasaki while tire shopping. Now that is quality time with your girl.
