Nice score.
I just got a '78 C2 650 for free.
Gonna be a father/son project.
Everythings been taken apart.
It did come with title and I've already transferred it.
Bad part is the engine is not complete. I do have a spare though.
This will be a long project:

the 78 was a tripple disc.
i'm getting tired of looking at them.
sorry, dog ate the usb cable tonight so no pictures for right now.

Will the body work for a 77 B1 fit the 78 KZ frame?
If so I am interested. Has anyone shipped a frame before and if so what company? Will UPS ship something like this?

I've had a frame shipped to me through Fed Ex before. Don't know the cost as it cost me $100 for frame and shipping half way across country. I was told UPS would cost you your first born but I have no personal knowledge of actual cost.

I live in New Westminster BC. It's a part greater Vancouver. I was thru your area early in August on my KZ900. I went to Calgary via Hwy 20 in Washington and Hwy 2 in Idaho and Montana. I grew up in southern Alberta and had been over the Logan pass in Montana on my CB750 a few times in 1977. What a trip to do on a motor bike. Hope to do it again in late July next summer.

So I got this 77 kz650 home last night in the pouring rain (photos soon). Didn't have time to look closely at it (just glanced at it in the dark two months ago). I'm new to the restoration game. Learned the hard way with my KZ900. When I got home from work today, I looked a little closer. It's worse than I thot. You all probably are not surprised at all. First I need a Kawasaki manual. Any ideas where i can get one (Clymers are easy). After a cursory look, these are the things I need (some of them are probably not available, would appreciate possible sources):

Carbs; All rubber
All brass
Air filter pods

Engine; Lt side cover (it has a hole in it)
Oil filter
Kick start lever

Exhaust; Entire system

Electrical; Points plate c/w points and condensers
Ignition switch
Signal lense

Chassis: Rr shocks/springs
Chain
Ft sprocket
Rr sprocket

Body; Rt side cover
Lt side cover
Chain guard
Seat

Brakes; Pads X 3
Caliper kits X 3
Ft master kit
Rr master kit
Rr brake lever

Now I realize that if I poke around on the regular sites like Z1 Enterprises I can find some of this stuff. Other stuff I may have to stumble upon. Some aftermarket stuff may be cheaper but be junk. Any guidance in finding items or opinions as to quality of aftermarket stuff would be appreciated.

Some of the above items may be listed in the wrong category.

Everything you have listed is on ebay! I know bidding sucks but most of your stuff is very available and priced cheaply. Right now there are 693 parts! :)

So here are some photos of my "free" 77 kz650. It will cost me a bundle if I decide to continue. Having spousal issues. Opinions as whether it is worth the $K it will take would be appreciated.

Well it looks more complete than the project I've taken on.
If you decide to part her out, I could maybe use a few parts.

I just may be parting it out. I needs everything. Tires, tubes, chain, ft sprocket, rr sprocket, complete exhaust, all cables, brake master & caliper rebuild, carb connectors, carb boots, carb rebuild kit, air box, seat, mirrors, headlamp ring, left side engine cover, rr shocks, battery, both side covers, oil &filter, air filter, etc, etc. And that's just off the top of my head. It's a '77C1. If you have a line on things like exhaust, side covers or seat, please let me know. At this point I'm getting grief from my wife about $. And she has a valid point. Just the above mentioned items will cost more than the bike would be worth. So at this point I'm thinking I'll rebuild the carbs just to see if I can make it run. I've never rebuilt carbs or motors before. Then I'll decide how far to go. The up side is that the tank, ft shocks, frame, electrical, and motor are quite good. Good luck with your project.

I got all new Kawasaki bowl gaskets and o-rings for the carbs. They gave me the wrong ones for the fuel feed connectors. Decided to try it anyway. Hot wired it and it fired right up. Problem was gas was pouring from the fuel connectors. What the hell, it was a learning experience. Many frozen bolts, screws, and studs.
Will be parting it out. Good carbs, tank, wheels, discs. Compression 120-140. Ad is in classifieds.
