HD Rider Couldn't Get Enough of My Bike!

Well, I took my 650 Custom on a little spin today and I ended up on the highway. As I was coming off an exit, I pulled into the left lane and stopped at the light. An HD rider older than I am pulled up next to me and started admiring my bike. He said he noticed my antique licence plate and couldn't figure out what I was on. I told him what it was and some of the things I had done to it and all he kept saying was " Real Nice Bike".

Now my 650 Custom is not the prettiest of the bunch but she runs sooo good. My ELR and GPz are in mint, showroom condition and turn heads all the time, but the Custom is a "work in progress". Especially cosmetically as she's a hodge podge of KZ parts done in a streetfighter fashion, but she's got some rust here and there, oxidation here and there and she definitely needs a paint job.

As the light turned green, I took my left turn and sped up the couple of blocks till the next light and stopped. The HD rider was right next to me again continuing to admire my bike saying "real nice bike" several times over. I just nodded with a "you bet your ass" grin on my face.

The light turned green and we took off. Apparently he wanted to flex some muscle as he kept reving his bike and pulled ahead of me. The road ahead was a lonley straightaway so I said frak this and pinned it and blew past him as my V&H megaphone drowned out his beasts blap blap blap exhaust. He tried to gain on me for a bit, but I kept on the throttle and stayed ahead of him. He then slowed and took a turn but the message was sent. I'm sure he wasn't going to share this story with anyone.

As for me, all in a days work!

That makes me think of my brother. He had a 08 nightster 1200 with screaming eagle package always talking smack that my OLD bike couldn't hang. So one morning he emailed somemore crap and made me mad so I rode 35 miles to his house I was on my 78 KZ1000 open pipes and did a burnout in his nice hood. He came out and said let me get my riding shit ..get it Bro. lets settle this Well theres some nice straits out here I spanked him every way possable. And everyone says the harley will beat ya in the long run well if he was within a 1/2 mile of me maybe !He don't talk that no more:blush: he said when I downshifted when we hit em on the roll and my KZ poped up on one wheel he knew he was in trouble I'd shut down at 125mph:woohoo: and he would be way the hell back there.:silly:

This is a common tale. I could share a weekly story similar to this. The old school riders know better and they know what these bikes are. My daughter used to think Busses were the fastest vehicles on the road because they were so loud. Same theory applies. On a 900 with a fouled plug you can beat a Harley....Russ

Well back around '79 or'80 my room mate had a KZ1000 LTD
with a little work done to it, on Thursday nights he would go riding with one of his a co-workers who had a 1200 Sportster. Every time the guy showed up he had a tee shirt on that said..."I'd rather push my Harley than ride a rice burner"...and every Thursday night when my room mate came home he was always chuckling and saying..."It looked like he was pushing that SOB." Memories, man they're great.
