KZ 400 series for sure for once she get's used to riding her own ride, 250cc won't cut it any longer for her and she'll desire more power....

Women are that way (demanding)... Always want more! :P

Good for her I say, right on girl!

Yeah shes cool, and I am glad she wants to ride too. Another reason I would prefer the kz400 is cause if/when she wants to move up I have always kind of liked the 400 or 440's and I could see myself riding it around town to save some gas, wheras on the 250 I would look way too funny...I am 6'5" and just lost 45 pounds so I weigh 275. The 400 would look like a nice vintage scooter, whereas the 250 would likely make me look like a gorilla on a unicycle

gorilla on a uni-cycle that's kind of a funny looking picture in my head,if i was that big i'd buy it and ride it just to hear what people would say, mind you you would out weigh the bike by about 40 lbs wouldn't you.

I have never really understood the need for bikes in the size of the KZ250 or a Honda Rebel. They are so small in stature that I assume they get blown all over the road. Do they have enough power to get out of trouble, merge properly, or maintain highway speed? I have never rode on one...Russ

A Yammy RD 350 or 400 would keep up with your 1000 from stoplight to stoplight. Now that would be embarrassing for the Misses to SMOKE (its a two stroke) you around town.

Yeah, we are used to bigger is better here in North America. However, things are (were) different overseas back in the day, and still to some degree today. My dad and I went to the Spring International Bike Show in Toronto in April this year and they had some vintage european bikes there. They had a few czech dirt bikes (jawa and cz) and a cherry Jawa 175.

jawagarage.net/images/175_480.jpg

Back when my old man was growing up, central/eastern europe was devastated from the war, people were poor to a degree we here in N.A. will never understand. In 1958 my grandfather got his first new vehicle, it was a 1958 Jawa 175. My dad explained how they would go for a ride every sunday...and by they I mean my grandfather, grandmother, my dad and my aunt. I was shocked considering that I moved up to a 1000 so I could go 2 up with the wife, and they were doing 4-up on a 175! I guess back then in Prague this was the norm, people didn't so much have cars and little bikes, sometimes with sidecars if they had the money.

When I showed up at my grandparents place with my 550 my grandfather was amazed with how huge it was...he said that when he had the 175 he used to take it to the streams to fish and used to be able to go through the paths in the forests like a bicycle. To him a bike that you can't pick up is a bulbous monstrosity. Not that I feel the same way, but I can see where he is coming from.

Not that I remember, but when Japanese cars came on the scene they were little underpowered boxes mimicking american cars. By the 80's and early 90's they had it right, toyota came out with the Lexus LS400 basically being the height of Japanese car quality and value. Jap bikes followed a similar pattern, started out small and cute, but with the CB750 and Z1 got their own image...funny thing is now they are mimmicking the american bikes and have forgotten their roots.

So for us the 250 is too small, but it wasn't that long ago that a 250 was a BIG bike. Jawa to this day doesn't make a bike bigger than 650!

I used to ride a Honda Dream and a T500 Suzuki many years ago. But they were really full size frames. The KZ250 is a very small frame isn't it? I sat on a Rebel once and could not believe how small the frame was. I felt like I was on a Tricycle.

You said you are 6'5" could you post a pic or video of you riding it? I am sure nobody will alter the pic and re-post it...lol...Russ

You know what, if I did go look at the 250 I would gladly post a pic, cause I think it would be funny. I look funny on a 550!

I wear size 17 work boots...the huge crankcase on the kz1000 makes it really hard to shift with a giant steel toe! although the 550 is a smaller frame, I found it roomier than my 1000, more shifting room and more legroom...weird.
