Hey all, thanks for the responses, just got back from the coast last night and looks like the old girl will go right into the shop. She was running , shall we say poorly most of the way back. Pulled the plugs after about 300 kms and they were looking real lean and clean, had not much for top end and kinda choppy at about 120kmh.( surging) So start with the simple stuff fist I guess, change the inline filter, pull the petcock and check it there, check tank for crap. All part of the fun right...at least the ride down was a sweet one. I will contact a couple of you who are close by and see if we can do some rides, if too late this season maybe in the spring...

You ever get down to this end of the Province?
B)
Hey Sandy, yes I was just down that way a couple of weeks ago, went from her to 100 mile house across to Little Fort, south to Kamloops, east to Revelstoke then south across the Arrow lakes to Nakusp then to Kaslo down to Balfour acroos Kootenay lake to Creston and then Cranbrook. That road from Crawford Bay to Creston was the best part of the trip, I think Destination B.C. rates it as the best ride in B.C. Lots of nice rides in your nieghbourhood....

The reported symptoms might also result from a clogged vent in the fuel cap.

If not already done, could test run with fuel cap ajar (not snapped down), which allows the tank to vent regardless of any such clog.

Good Luck! :)

Thanks for the tip Patton, my gasket on the cap leaks when the tank is right full and on the side stand. With that gasket being dried up like that would that allow enough air in? I'll will try your method in the morning, I'll also have a new inline filter here by then so I'll change it as well. How common is the problem you mentioned? and is that on both style tanks? mine is an SR. It's kind of strange because up till now she always ran fairly consistent and I didn't change anything then all of a sudden she started to run real lean, never has before. What would you suggest next if the fuel filter and venting issues don't fix the problem?...thanks..kzk

I concur with your ideas about checking out the petcock and tank and renewing the inline fuel filter. And only mentioned the vent as another possibility (easy to check).

Would remove petcock and clean the pickup tube screens that stick up inside the tank. If a manual petcock, would also remove and clean out the sediment bowl and the round filter screen (if the screen is still there).

Would also flush the tank, by removing it and dumping old fuel through the open cap, partially re-fill, shake it around, and dump again. All to remove whatever grit or crud might be floating around inside hovering over and collecting on and clogging the petcock pickups.

Here's a link to Z1E's Fuel tank cap GASKET

Good Luck! :)
