I had to go thru a red light! was created by harm
Yesterday i came up to a red traffic light, stopped and waited and waited and waited some more. It was one of these intersections that has the pressure type switch in the road and i guess my 550 isn't quite heavy enough : ). I ended up just going. Do you guys ever have this on your bikes? What else am i supposed to do a U-turn??

I feel better now....

I know some places its legal to run the light if you wait long enough and its safe to go... You can buy the "Red Light Changers" on ebay which are really just magnets. I can't remember who it was (OMR?) who used a magnet from an old speaker stuck to the bottom of his bike that did the trick just fine.

Hey Tom,

They's not pressure triggered. It's all about metal and impedance. Next time try approaching at the edge of the loop and if necessary set your side stand down on the loop.

from the police i have asked it is illegal, or at least in Wisconsin. i take a right and then a u-turn. any reason not to get pulled over. i take chances with registration and stuff, not moving violations :)

There is a time limit for waiting at a red. (at least here) If it doesn't change and it's safe to........blow it.

Supposedly there's a limit to the wait, but I do like mentioned, turn and make a U-turn if possible. I was down in Florida once and they had one of those rediculous left turn on arrow only things. A line of cars 10 deep was in front of me. I waited probably 5 minutes or more, gave up and went straight then u-turned. I see the front couple guys get impatient and turn against the red arrow as I approach, then there's the Florida State Patrol there to immediately pull them over as I drive away.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

If your brother's a cop, don't they give family members a special card that gives you some kind of traffic ticket immunity? What's the problem.

I would run the red when clear. On the odd chance a cop would pull me over I would tell him what happened. I really doubt you would get a ticket. I have heard an earth magnet works. But the stator has a good magnetic field also why wouldn't it work?...Russ

I know here in MN it is legal to run a red if you've been stopped for a while and it's safe.

The magnetic field for the stator is actually the rotor and/or field coil depending on the bike. The sator makes use of the field, but doesn't create a field.

The field in the alternator is a closed loop. This is to focus the magnetism in the alternator to make it efficient. Some magnetism leaks out, but not much. By placing an open magnet on the bottom of the bike, the field is pointing down to be focused at the wire loop in the road. The wire loop senses metal, like a big metal detector using magnetism. By installing a big magnet, it makes the bike appear as a big ugly hunk of iron.
