Laconia is about a 2 - 2.5 hour ride from me and I have never been. It's a rally dominated by riders of "The Motor Company's" offerings. Metrics are not given overly friendly welcomes. I know people who have had their bikes vandalized there by "brand loyalists" who think the only bike worth riding has the 8th and the 4th letter of the alphabet on them. I hear there is a pretty good showing of sport bikes there however and they are tolerated as long as there are young women on the back willing to show their mommy parts. If you go, expect a very large showing of LEO's. Ride safe, have fun.

I rode up there from Colorado quite a few times on the KZ1000. Being a cheapskate, not wanting to pay inflated tourist motel rates I stayed in either Manchester, NH or Brattleboro, VT. Everyone treated me fine and I had one great time every year. This was back in the 80s though, so things may be different now, but great times for sure. Go if you can and have fun. The best part was the constant good looking women with skimpy halter tops ect, and the whole rowdy crowd would call out "tits" and many times the girls would raise their tops. Now I'm sure in todays world that won't happen. Call out "tits" now and it's 10 minutes taking off the sweatshirt, 2 T shirts under it, a couple bras all to find a skinny mutt with nothing to show anyway. Oh well times were good years ago and it was fun.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Yeah - I'm originally from up around there. There certainly are plenty of knuckleheads that go, and many a fight witnessed, but the riding is damn fine up there this time a year and there's always a ton of bikes and other "tallent" to marvel over. Though couple years back the joint was crawling w/ fed storm troopers over some supposed gang beef.

I have no love for the buy-a-lifestyle or thugged HD sets, but I think the hill climb at Gunstock and the vintage races alone are well worth the jaunt.

I'll have some fun & report back

I can't argue your point about the riding, it is great. Have you ventured over to North Conway, NH and ridden the Kangamangus Highway? Well worth the trip.

I'm actually from up there originally...so the Kank and Franconia notch are where I cut my teeth on the twisties.

Gonna brave the weather and try to log some miles me thinks...I'll report back on the stupidity encountered.

Well, happy to report, Laconia trip braved without incident. Many a wet mile logged, skeezer oogled and beverage sent to it's maker. As usual, mostly uninteresting, recently bought on equity loan American metal. But there were a few interesting bikes and plenty of characters.

There was also a trolley-bus conductor in assless chaps & a disappearing top worth mentioning...but only because of how much you wouldn't want to see pictures of her....one-eyed drunk, as I was, or not :-)

To each there own in our two-wheeled leather world.
