Price

So I've got this little 1980 honda 400 I'm trying to unload. Nice little bike, runs good, looks decent, even got a trunk/backrest and a fairing for the front if thats what you're into (PO gave them to me). So some guy messages me and says my asking price ($800) is way too high and she's only worth about $400. Somehow I don't think a running bike in overall good condition is worth that much. If thats all I'd get I'll part it out.

That bike must get about 80 miles to the gallon doesn't it? Comeback with $650.00. I bet he buys it...Russ

Already told him six, doesn't want it, tells me still its worth four, so I'm not gonna bother with him anymore. Already got someone else interested in any case. My only concern is the cylinder base gasket has started to leak, I may have to install a new one before I sell it, I wont sell a bike if I think there may be a problem.

And yeah it gets crazy mileage.

Well a new base gasket will solve the leak, if you have just caught it starting to leak often a re-torquing of the head bolts will cure the problem.

I think $800 isn't out of line. I paid $700 for my 440, and it had a leaky base gasket. I worked on it over that next winter and fixed up bunch of little issues and polished the crap out of everything. The bike is my avatar pic. It gets 50-60 mpg and I ride it to work. I have several people that told me if I ever sell it to call them. One offered $1000 for it so his wife could learn on it. I sold a KZ250 in pristine condition for $800 bucks last year. Little bikes have value for economy, novelty, and learners.

I see a little RTV down there So I want to get down and stick a new gasket in it. Most likely the PO was a fan of gooping stuff up instead of fixing properly.

Come to think of it, last year I recall and add on the wall at my local grocery store for a '79 Honda 400, with luggage case and front fairing in realy nice shape for $1900. Now that was unrealistic. It did sell after a few months but I have know idea what the price actually was.

I saw a complete POS Yamaha 750 special shaft drive go for 2 grand to my shock and astonishment... You never know I guess.

Yeah its all about if the right person is around to buy it I guess. I'll leave it at my asking price, I'm sure she'll sell soon enough.

Maybe the guy that is offering you $400.00 is basing his offer on the buck a cc theory. While I've bought bikes for that and less, it is not always realistic, especially since you are now in prime selling season. I'd say stick to your guns, this time of year you will find somebody who wants it.

Tell him to go and price a non running POS KZ these days...

Dude, just inform him this... Here's the asking price, if you really want the bike then Buy it or STFU already!
