Right on.
My first bike was a midnight special 850 shaft drive. Top heavy bike but I managed just fine. For me at the time it was scary fast for the first week or two so I took it really easy.
Man, San Francisco sure doesn't seem like a good place to learn how to ride with all of those hills although when the occasions I was visiting I did notice 50 percent of the people riding were of the tender gender. Perhaps I should clarify that a bit they were female. That was a refreshing site to see.
Well, again. I am positively certain that there are bikes around and to purchase a bike site unseen is perhaps at best a little dicey, especially when you are paying so much to have it shipped.
Good luck on that one.

Try Daily Direct at haulbikes.com. I used them a few years back to ship a Yamaha R5. They did a great job with no damage. It might take a while, but they're cheaper than Forward Air and you don't need to haul to an airport.

I have been thinking about that one. Part of the thing that charmed me with the Atlanta one was the spoke instead of mag wheels, and the color. If I don't go after this one, I may look in to the Sac town one. It has fewer miles also.

Looking at the 2 bikes there's no question about it, I'd get the one in Sacramento. It has less miles, better tires, a new clutch and new fork seals. It also has the stock seat vs that ugly double bucket thing. For the money you save in shipping you should be able to paint it any color you want. If you really want spokes I'll swap those mags with you for a set of spoke wheels I have here.

yep. the cost of shipping this bike jumped in the last few days. it looks like i would now be looking at $750-$850. i maybe i will start drinking so i wind up sleeping past the end of the auction so i don't get tempted to bid.

...but that may backfire if i don't get sleepy, and i may wind up with that bike and a few other things.

Maybe not the best place to learn, but it is easier to get around, and parking in my neighborhood is a nightmare. It often takes 45 minutes driving around to find a place 4 blocks away. Not really kidding on that. I can park a bike on the side of my place, or in my tiny backyard.

I actually sold off my cars, and use a service called City Car Share to run errands when I need to. It is cheaper than owning a car, and has a dedicated lot for parking close to where I live.
