What do you guys think?
eBay Item number: 130184541672

The owner thinks it's a '78...it may be...it's got an '80 fuel tank and the motor is an '80...or at least the head is from what I can tell.

You guys got any insite?

Hmmm...18" front wheel and frame VIN says 1978...if motor is 1980 (no motor VIN given) then we have yet another Frankenbike:)

How can you tell the front is an 18? ...always wondered if there's a secret to being able to tell from a photo.

I don't care if it has an 18 inch front wheel or not. I don't even care if it is a 78, 79 or 80, but I sure do like that paint scheme,,,

It looks all 78 to me except the engine. 18" front wheel, (yes I see that too

), low serial number and the 160mph speedo is definate 1978 as 1980 would be 85mph. Bike looks pretty darn neat. Well done whoever did it.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

So, I got this response from the seller today:

hi yes the bike is a 1978 my friend bought the bike new in 78 he had all the custom work done it is a 80 gas tank and the motor is correct for the bike but has a 80 head and all motor covers on it are from a 1980 and the front rim is a 18 thanks any more ?s let me know

The '80 stator cover will not fit the '78 flywheel. I think the crank would have to be changed too, at least the rotor and stator for sure. I'd be willing to bet the whole motor is from an '80. If that's the case, the good news is it will have the MKII crank.

Here's another frankenbike, I think. It is listed as an '80 but has a 160 speedo...

Well the seller was open enough to admit in the first sentence of the description that the bike was not in original condition...I guess that covers all situations:laugh: :laugh:
