Ran my 79 1000ST (Shaft) at the track last month and posted a best 12.2@113.5mph (80 degrees at sea level) My 60 foot time on that run was 2.15 sec...not good. Should be closer to 1.8 sec. Teminal speed suggests the bike will run somewhere in the mid 11's with a good launch. Bike has 1075, 34rs flat slides. Web Cam .365 lift, V&H megaphone.

Time slip says
60' - 2.154
330 - 5.302
1/8 - 7.920 93.32mph
1/4 - 12.205 113.47mph

Was my first time at the 1/4 mile track with a bike. Will try again before the season is out.

Still an interesting thread, even if 10yr old. Some of the 10yr old stuff I kind of question, like 10s in the quarter mile. I remember when cycle world built up a 1978 Z1R to run in the 10s zone, it took quite a bit of work to get 10.9 seconds vs the stock bike that ran around 12.00. I highly doubt a 10.5 street KZ1000 on regular gas with simple 1075 kit.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Same - without huge amounts of money spent on serious engine modifications, the best I 1/4 mile I ever did on any 80's street bikes was 11.5's at 117 - 120 mph - on a heavily modified (mostly by removing weight from the chassis - engine was internally stock but finely tuned) 79 CBX that weighed only 500 lbs. And I only weighed 150 lbs back then. too. Funny, as I never lost one street - stop light race on that bike (given, most street racing only lasted up to about 70 - 80 mph before having to brake hard for other traffic). That included so-called mid 10 second stock bikes like FJ's, GS1150's, GSXR1100, Vmax, CBR1000, ZX10R's.....one guy on a Ninja kept trying (and losing by several bike lengths), and finally gave up, asking me "were you born on that thing or something?".

Well, if things go according to plan this season - I'll have maybe three to five street bike projects I'm involved with making passes down the strip this season (ridden by respective owners)....

1. My "Beater II" 81 KZ1000LTD.....bike is being built for under $2.5K from 98% used parts - 1170cc, maybe 115 RWHP, I'm hoping for mid to low 11's....with no N0S....still looking for a useable 18 mm crankshaft, though....
2. An 85 GS1150E, 1220cc, approx. 120 RWHP, about 475 lbs, I'd say maybe low 11's to mid 10's....
3. J's custom fuel injected 81 /83 GPz1400......140-155 RWHP, guessing mid to low 10's.....for this year, anyway (potential exists for mid 9's once "dialed in")....
4. An 82 Katana 1100, about 90 RWHP, close to stock engine internals, low 12's to high 11's
5. My latest personal project - a used 20k mile junkyard stock engine CBXA......low `12's to hifgh 11's (bike weight at under 500 lbs, me at about 180 lbs)

*Added - only no.s 4 and 5's above have engines that aren't "built to the 9's"! All have aftermarket induction and exhaust systems. All are short wheelbase sport bikes, not purpose built dragsters - no drag tires or slicks, wheelie bars, stretched, raked, street equipment removed (other than mirrors), special tuning for the strip, front ends strapped down, etc...*

Only time(slips) will tell, I guess.....

I looked up Lorcan's racing site because he hasn't posted in a while, he appears to be doing fine.
In the list of people he's hooked up with is this guy.
