Ahhhh, okay. That's basically a Spectre, but with the LTD paint & chrome scheme. That's a 1983 model, right? The peg mounts are a bit different, so my ghettotech method would have to be altered and adapted to that application if that's what you want to do. That looks pretty similar to the KZ550-M that Trav has, but he grafted on modern rearsets from some sport bike of recent vintage.

I'd recommend a superbike or clubman bar, some sort of rearsets, Progressive springs up front (or a GPz750 fork), some nice shocks in back, and some sticky tires. Change out all the bearings, maybe paint the wheels and frame, get some sexy turn signals. That bike should have come with an electric tach, so GPz750 cams will drop right in, same with Mikuni BS34s. An '82 GPz 750 or 1000 tank should bolt right on, as would the tank from a 1000 MkII (if you can find one). Hell, the GPz seat might even plop right on there too, I don't know, there might be differences in the rear subframe.

Cool, man! Keep us posted, take lots of pictures!

Here is a pic of my 83 L-3 which has the same tank and seat as an 82 GPZ 750. You might get the tank to work but the seat is doubtful since the frames are totally different. Also that bike should already have the BS 34 Mikunis on it.

I don't think we will use the gpz tank on this one- I like the roundy-er one, and so does NB- I found a tank and front fender on e-bay

Will GPZ550 forks be an improvement on handling?

CruisingRam,

That's the same bike I have under construction now. Can I ask you to post a pic of the top of the forks? Mine may not be stock to the LTD and I need to see the air setup.
Thanks

Another LTD fork, but it is not quite the same- I don't think he described it quite rigt on the e-bay add- but it bolted in,but it doesn't seem to have an aircrossover

My fork does not have an air crossover, and the fork tubes do not have any type of airhole in the side. The schrader valves are recessed slightly up at the top, about 3/4" down in the tube.

How do I remove this in order to remove the fork springs, or measure oil level, etc? I have to replace the seals and clean up the tubes.

My KZ750LTD has fork caps that thread onto the fork tube. I worked on my brother's KZ550LTD that had a recessed air valve on the top of the fork. To access the springs and oil, you have to jack up the front wheel, push down on the cap (really hard depending upon the condition of the forks) and pry out a c-clip retainer like on a piston/wrist pin combo. I hope this helps.
Good Luck.
