i got a offer to buy this from a friend tonight.
he has not ridden it for 3 years and is in need of money for home repairs.
i know how some of you feel about repaints but i really like this one.
the thing is, if i buy this, i just blew my budget until after the holidays and the new year.
the other downside is people know who's bike it used to be.
the upside?
it will win awards at bike meets and i am a attention whore.
i allready have the hopped up 650 motor to make this run as it looks.
price is $3000 or somewhere close to that.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Well, yellow doesn't do it for me. I'd find something else to spend 3 large on.

I won't say anything about the paint, (Thank you I hear everyone yell) :P To me a $3000 KZ650 would have to be all original or else something extremely fast like back in the NMRA heyday of drag racing. Does anyone remember the class they used to run that was same basic rules as prostock, but limited to 750ccs or so? This was about 1980 and the KZ650s were running right around the low 10s or high 9s if I remember right, then the shaft drive Yamaha 750 I think ridden by Joe Koenig ousted the Kawasakis from the throne. Sorry to drift off subject and I won't say any more than I don't see it being a $3000 bike myself.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

What would I do?

I'm not sure. It doesn't trip my trigger enough to spend $3k on it. You like it, so it's your decision.

Parts wise, it looks to be a mutt with pieces from various years and models. But, I'm looking at it from an entirely different perspective than you are.

It's probably the yellow in the wheels that put me off the most.

Have fun deciding. ;)

$3000 is way more than that bike would bring on the open market. I see the wheelie bars on it so either it is or was a drag bike. That will bring the value down some. The odd paint scheme would bring it down more. Without knowing the mileage and engine mods I would say on Ebay it would bring around $1400-1600. That would be during the spring. Since it is in NY and iwnter is coming on fast I would say right now it would bring $1400 at the most. Offer him $1300. Anymore than that I would let him list it locally and then wait for him to come back and accept your offer after he doesn't get any better ones (which he won't).

I remember them. A guy at Whittier Kawasaki built one before moving to the mid-west. He had the #2 plate for a long time. He ran 10.28 and had the MPH record at 138. Before he re-sleeved up to 759 we raced a few times and were about 50 50. Who ever got the leave won.

I just bought a low mileage stocker of Ebay for a little over $500.00 and for the extra $2500.00 I'm sure I could make it look way better than that one. I have to agree with everyone else here, that bike is way out of line price wise. You would be better off putting that money in the 650 C that you already have.

He listed it on Craigslist. The airbrushed dragon on the tank looks a little low quality from the pics. Not sure what awards you would win with theh paint job but what do I know. You asked for our opinion so I hope we are not offending you but I think most of us agree that the bike is on the ugly side.

my two cents, 3k its way over priced, I dont care for the paint job, I think the yellow wheels are what puts it over the edge.
you could use the money you have to finish your bike, bet it will look a lot better
