Those bikes are getting spendy so it may be. However, I would offer him $2900.00 and see if he bites. If your like me, you may as well start with a complete bike that is a junker because you'll end up redoing the whole thing anyway.

Those are sweet bikes though.

Some things to consider:
> The seat has been chopped up.
> The exhaust is aftermarket...I don't recognize the maker.
> Missing the air-box.
> Missing the seat rails.

I'd check the condition of the tires, body paint, motor paint, and chain and sprockets and then beat the crap out of him (price wise). Seems that all the major stuff is there, the rest of it pops up on ebay from time to time. I think he's about a grand too high, but I'm a cheap bastard.
Good luck, post up if you get it!!!

X2 with what Bad Kaw said. it is a little rough for that kind of money, and it is in Michigan, riding season is about over. i am cheap too and would say 2000-2500 would be a good deal for that bike, this time of year.

Way too much money for a modified bike. $2000 tops for that bike, there is a lot of work ahead for the next owner.

Remember boys...the 90s are over. The Z1R is fast becoming a premier cult bike.
This may be a better example of a $3800 Z1R: cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...VIP:watchlink:top:us

Hey, and speaking of "Z1R"s; are you guys "78" guys, or "80" guys?

I'm a "78" guy myself...what about you?

This may be a better example of a $3800 Z1R:

They are becoming the "Hemi Cuda" of KZ's, though not in as big a way yet. Who would have thought a hemi or 440 six pack cuda or challenger would be selling for 7 figures?!!! Even nice clones are going for around $100,000! In the late 70's and early 80's you could buy these cars for under $1000 because they were gas hogs and gas was about $1 a gallon! :woohoo:  At first glance the Z1R on e-bay looks nicer but it looks like it has parts from different years on it. The front discs are not 78 Z1R's, the drilled pattern is wrong for a 78. Could easily be a clone. The exaust on the first one looks like the Kirker I have on mine.(what you can see of it) For those modifing your bikes, take note from the car guys, KEEP THE STOCK STUFF!

Yeah, I totally agree with Z1Rrider (BTW: nice screen name ... and avatar!).
If you're going for a restoration bike the black eBay bike has some caveats: wrong color, wrong brakes, maybe the wrong front wheel ('78s had 18"ers and '80s had the 19"er). It may be a mix-n-match bike, but if you're looking for a "runner" that bike looks like it has a lot of goods. I'd punt the dual exit exhausts  .

Talman: Both years of Z1Rs are starting to pull significant money. About 10 yrs back the Daytona bike auction (during bike week) a nearly stock, very clean Z1R brought $3500 and I thought that was good. Now, that same bike would bring $5000+. And a totally stock, clean example (restored or original) will pull +/- $7K. There is a nice example on eBay right now with a $7600 "buy it now" for a nicely done daily-driver that's as stock as my bike. Will he get that??? Probably not, but I did see a '78 with less than 1000 miles on it (who would do that???) go for a little over $10,000 this summer. Here is the eBay bike that is up for sale at this moment: cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...em=280149088708&rd=1

'81 and '82 GPz1100s bring good money, too. And of course there is the ELR that's brought good money for many years. Z1R Turbos bring good $. And the 750 Turbo brings strong $ also. Z-1s have brought good money since the mid80s, and their close cousins (Z-motor KZ1000s) will bring the good $ also along with the MKII.

What is it about these bikes?...I dunno, like Z1Rrider noted: these bikes are entering cult status. All I know is that I dig 'em, too.
