Uncertain whether this matters, but which pilot adjustment in carb -- air screw or mixture screw?
I have the carbs with the screws in the front of the bowls, under the venturis.

Oddly enough, I have a headlight switch on my Z1R, and it was made in 7/77 and a very nice, LOW frame number. hehehehe.

D1 from my understanding were the 78 SR produced in the calender year of 77 (Serial numbers which would not have exceeded probably 4000 or so) and had an on/off switch for the headlight. D1A were the 78 SR's which were manufactured in 1978. In 78 Feds mandated that the headlight must stay on, so the on/off switch was removed. However, there is still a spot on the handlebar switch casing where the on/off switch would go. Even on Abbie's LTD, there is the spot where the on/off switch would go, if it had one.
Again, this is to the best of my knowledge, so there is room for error.

Another note - I recently ended up with 2 manuals for the 650 (over anxious bidding on eBay:whistle: ) and one covers model years 77-79 (and only the D1 version) and the other the 78-80 models (and only the D1A version). This seems to support the general belief that the D1 was an early version with an earlier manufacture date. Of course, none of this is really important, but I do find it interesting!
