The guy wants 650 for it. Its an 80. The seat is destroyed (shredded), the carbs are leaking. There's some kind of frame welded on it that probably held a cheap aftermarket fairing, theres wires dangling out of everywhere and the tires are probably original. It does run but it runs like an abused 1980 bike.

Is it worth the trouble and if so at what extremely low dollar amount?

My only KZ was a Z1 dragbike that I only had to partially build that had virtually no electrics or electronics.

I neeeeeed a KZ to built into perfection.

From your description, I'd say $650 is way too high. Perhaps about half that is a good starting point. It's not beyond reason that it'll take $500 to $800, maybe more, to get it in a very nice condition, ridable condition, maybe some less.

The outward condition is often a reflection on the kind of maintenance and care the bike received. I wouldn't be at all surprised to discover it needs the valve clearances adjusted and probably more than a couple of other items replaced--tires, chains, sprockets, fork seals, brake lines, brake repair--beyond what you've already mentioned.
