My first bike was a 1974 H-1E with the red center on a burgundy tank and the tailpiece. Great bike and it handled decently. The powerband was pretty good for me since I weighed 160lbs at the time. I had Murdoch Racing Enterprises (in Clearwater Florida) do a stage-1 porting for me and I put on a set of J&R chrome chambers. Then... it would haul ass.
I rode it a lot in town and got enough tickets to suspend my license for 30 days but was able to get a judge to give me driving school for the last one to avoid suspension.
Mine would foul plugs because I used Castrol 2-stroke oil. My dealer finally took the cable off the oil pump because it pumped in so darn much oil that the plugs would last maybe 1000 miles.
Later when I worked as a Suzuki mechanic (and had sold the H1) I found Spectro 2T injector oil to be the best thing around for long life and clean burning.
I don't miss the bike but saw a 1973 at the Riding Into History event at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, FL. Check out www.ridingintohistory.com .
Enjoy

All I'll say is that a ride on an H2 (stock or modded) is like nothing else in this world....
except maybe a ride in a 413/426 Hemi original bodied early 60's full sized Dodge on the original skinny little bias ply tires. Now THAT'S scary.....
An H1 is a nice bike....but no substitute for the real McCoy, of course....but if your wallet won't withstand an "H2 Hit" then go for an H1 up to ~1974....or even an S2 (350 triple) or a KH400 if you have to. They're ALL fun.
And the EPA will absolutely hate you.
What's not to like !!??!!

I still think the H2 was one of the best looking bikes made.In early 72 I used a buddy of mine's 750 to smoke
(no pun intended) hopped up Honda 4s and Harleys.Alot
easier to get a good holeshot on than the H1.I think
it got about 19 MPG.It felt turbine smooth, but would
crack the motor mounts about once a year.Adjusting
spokes and chain was almost daily. But my god was it
fun.I was going to buy a new one, but bought a nice
used 440 Six Pack Cuda for $1800.oo instead.Oh-those
were the days.

I rode an early H1 that had filters and pipes and found as it came on the pipes the throttle stuck open and the key was not easy to access(below left front of tank). Exciting test ride!!

I purchased a H2 in the mid 70's at the age of 16, rode it to school everyday I could and for a few years after.Parked it and moved to Alaska for a while. When I got back, I rode it once and it scared the crap out of me,so I parked it for 20 some years until a few years ago when I got the itch to ride again. Some new tires and a little refreshing and I was back on the road. I rode it a few times and bought a Z1.
