Any power difference with the 77 and say 81 or 82 model year 1000's ? Im tempted to get his bike but that 30,000 miles for $2000 has me a litle hesitant. The bike is clean though, but I would like a little later model year.

The J motor (1981+) is superior to the Z1000 (1977-1979 LTD) and MKII motor (1980 LTD)...parts are readily available for all.

Sorry I didnt reply. The bike was in Syracuse il. About 25 miles west of O'hare. It was on Ebay. Checked the guys history and found out he bought it with a "buy it now" back in April for $1339. Needed carbs cleaned and valve cover gasket and the grab bar was missing. I guess the guy bought it and changed the valve cover gasket, said he rebuilt the carbs (on his posting) and he had the grab bar on the bike. It sold for $1500. Sounds like he lost a little money...... Im geting frustrated cause I checked out 3 KZ 1000's the last 4 days while I been off work and cant find nothing. The thing I hate is bogus ads. I dont mind doing some work on a bike but dont advertise it as being in "mint condition, all original" and asking $3500 for it and when I go look at it, its a waste of time..... Emblems missing on side covers, original grab bar missing cause they put a big bar on the back, 81' LTD with spoke wheels ??? Battery that leaked acid on the frame. I know these bikes are pretty old but dont advertise them as "all original" and ask a premium price and they aint even close. Bikes, boats, cars all seem to go for some crazy prices here in chicago for some reason. I got more frustrated when I looked at E-bay and found a 77 GS1000. The bike was nice, 4 into 1 pipe and pretty well taked care of. The bike been repainted he has it for no reserve for a 10 day auction. He said he has it for sale locally so if it sells he will end the auction. The bike has 2 dents in the tank, (and it was cremed), tabs broken on the side covers, front rotors are warped. I E-mailed him and asked him how much he wanted for it and he said $4500. The bike is sitting at $810 right now with 7 days left. He said he pulled the sign of the bike out front cause he expects the bike to sell for more than the $4500 he was asking for it. I will laugh when it sells for about $1600 on E-bay. Im fed up trying to find my KZ1000 for now so Im gonna take a break and have a drink
