For example, I have a type 5 fairing but I need type 53 lowers because I have a KZ 1000.
I think that the main fairing will fit most any bike (with the right mounting bracket), but lowers are more specific to the bike. The Vetter web site should be able to tell you what type you need.
I have a fairing I will send you pics, but I don't have any lowers so I don't know how much it will help.
I am looking for lowers but type 53 are hard to come by.

I still would like to see how yours hooks up- I had to cut off the part of the bracket on bike that attaches to the frame- that is definately different than the KZ!

My fairing is off an XS1100- how do I know which model is which?

There should be a label on the inside where the wiring harness plugs in. This should tell you what you have.
some of the older fairings might not have this. Try posting a pic. Someone might be able to id it.
I'll try posting some pictures of mine tonight, bracket and all.
Mario's picture is really good to see how the lowers cover the engine, but when you read the vetter web site it tells how they manufactured each set of lowers to fit different bikes.
To get the lowers to fit you need to match up with your bike and your fairing.

since it was made for the xs, I am not sure you are going to get a set of lowers to fit yor bike just right.
