Re: KZ650 Sleeper Build (KZ1000 engine transplant)
12 Dec 2025 08:07 - 12 Dec 2025 08:22I am just too lazy to clear snow to wade thru my spares at the moment so Ebay was the easier option. I want to put a billet center in that top idler before it goes on the head. Yeah the shipping is brutal these days and when you need it, you need it.Who knew You were looking for 650 tensioner bits? I use to make my own beer, been brewing since 1990 but it got a bit out of control so I backed off about 10 years ago and stopped. Been a whiskey guy since then, but my drinking has dropped off big time, just the occasional dram.
I was making around 50 gallons a session at my peak, beer on tap 24/7.
Brewed in my garage for a lot of years, piped it down into my basement to ferment. I sold that big setup to finance my 7" drag bike roller
I still have a smaller setup that I can do 15 gallons on my basement stove and another setup to do garage brewing. All that equipment is currently gathering dust, but the bar is still here just no beer on tap.
I also made wine from grapes as my wife is Italian, but we said that press and all that equipment will be sold in the Spring.

Finally finished up this billet bracket today.
Cut the top radii with a 1/4" radius cutter, but to save some time just used a hand file on the mount flange radii.
Checked the fit into the top inside of the cam cover and there is lots of clearance, room to "wiggle" it, and about 3/16" to the gasket surface.
This should fix my issue with removing the cam cover off to the side without it catching. Won't really know till I dive into it in the Spring.

The height difference between the stock and billet brackets with the same sprocket center line.
A lot of work for a small difference.

Is there enough "flat" around the bolt holes for the mounting bolts to sit down flat ?

12 Dec 2025 12:53Its hard to make out but I spot faced those mount holes with a 13/32" (.406") end mill, M6 SHCS head is about .388" so should be OK.Is there enough "flat" around the bolt holes for the mounting bolts to sit down flat ?

Re: KZ650 Sleeper Build (KZ1000 engine transplant)
Yesterday 19:50 - Yesterday 19:50
I believe the design I came up with will do the same job as the steel bracket. I made all the wall thicknesses as big as I could, the general run of thumb is over double of what the steel thickness is. The way I carved out the insides created some gussets to make it as strong as possible.
I think I am done on this project for a while till it gets a bit warmer in the garage.

I was looking at some drag bike parts on Ebay last night and spotted this billet J conversion bracket for center idler.
Now I am thinking mine was "over engineered"
