Hi All,
We are trying to restore a bike that has been sitting in garage for the last 19 years. It is a 1982 GPZ 1100 with a GSXR front end, a TL1000 rear end, a Z900 ( I think) tank and an engine bored out to 1170 (again, I think)
It has upgraded Dynatek ignition (with one busted coil) and the Dynatel DRL300 RPM limiter.
This bike never ran never ran correctly, even back in 2004 - the owner packed it away and moved to Australia, and I have been at him for about the last 10 years to do something with it. So here we are, he is coming back to Derry in August so we have until then to get the bike running, and maybe even MOTed.
Here is the back when he got it in 2002!

There will be more pics coming - I only get to work on this every Monday night but I am planning to document the journey as I best I can - so here is a playlist I started on Youtube
The first video is 50 minutes long and is myself and the bikes owner Lee, who has been living in Australia for the last 19 years talking about how he got the bike and what we plan to do with it. It's a bit long so I won't feel bad if you skip it and go straight to Day 1 - which is only 7 minutes long

Welcome back!
I love a purely stock KZ
Your accent makes me think that your shack is not just outside La Grange
Anyway, I am sure Wookie58 or F64 will be along shortly to help with your diagnosis.

Quite right - I live in Derry in Northern Ireland - just a big fan of ZZ Top!
I did buy a wiring diagram from a company I found online - which I hoped would help but I can already see some minor differences - for example - the two wires coming from my starter button are Black with a Red stripe - and on this diagram they are solid black - having said that - one of them does connect to a solid black wire in a connector at the front of the frame (about a foot and a half from the handlebars.
I also have that unplugged Black/Red wire that doesn't seem to have anything to plug into - I can't locate that on this diagram.
This diagram also makes no reference to the round starter relay that sits in the fusebox
It also has a white with a red stripe in between the starter solenoid and the battery that apparently connects to nothing - just ends in a white plug or cap or something
Unless I just don't know how to read wiring diagrams - which is also entirely possible
