If I were going to run spoke wheels, I would definitely get a set of cool aluminum rims. The best place I know of for spokes and rims is www.buchananspokes.com/categories/index.asp.

Depending on your clearances, you could also chose to get rims that are a bit wider than stock and they would be a better fit for slightly wider tires.
Even the 120 width tires I run are not recommended for use on the 2.15" stock wheel width of the KZ1000.

What about shocks? Any common "good" stuff? 

The most commonly recommended "good" shocks around here are Hagon and Ikon.

Have you considered tubeless-compatible rims? I know they're out there, I personally detest using tubes. 

I ordered those. They will be OE like, I thought about something "cool" but it's going to my first time building wheel, decided to stay close to OE as possible

Spent 4+ hours blasting, there is some more, but for what I need now I am pretty much done (almost done with center stand, it's still in a cabinet).
Swingarm was a bitch. I had good bearings inside, I masked it carefully, but forgot about grease hole (nipple removed). And yeah, media got inside. Now I need to figure out how I clean it or just junk it and get new bearings.



 

I went to the z1parts page.  It's funny that he says three times that spoke wheels need tubes, and he says it in three different ways.  I guess some folks had some questions.

Quick question. Are those triple clamp painted black from factory? Sand blaster took paint off like it wasn't there, very thin weak layer

I know, first world problems, right? But it's like growing third arm. Once you have it - hard to go back. It's got pretty hot on Sunday, was real PITA to be in garage. And lot of times I can't open doors (most of the times) because of neighbours.

I can deal with cold to some degree, but heat killing me. And here where I live it gets brutal.

Getting off work today, sunny - hope to do some priming. Rest of week going to rain.

Primer applied. This Raptor may not be designed to lay very flat. Also, I didn't have gun with 1.7+ nozzle, used 1.4. Got some texture. Oh well. I kind of expected this, it needs to be sanded anyways. But big part is done. I covered parts with primer, now I can take my time prepping for paint. No weather for a week, enough time.

Chrome guys called. I think it's their "trick" to get more money, but I am OK with it. Basically, their back log is until July. But "his uncle" does job on a side, can do quicker but charges more and cash only. Extra $150 and I will have it in 2-3 weeks.

How convenient !! 

The story of ONE TOOL. Need to disassemble forks. I read people using brum sticks, etc. But I also read that people use 19mm bolt head. Ok, I sacrificed HF extension, welded 19mm nut on it and got nice tool. But it didn't work.

 


Ok. I guess I needed to read a BOOK first. Book mentions special tool. Googled special tool - looks like 4 edged spike. I thought it's a 3/8 extension on picture, cut welded nut off and got new tool. But it didn't work (too small)


 


Ok. Let's destroy 1/2 HF wobble extension. Another tool.
