You're right, I definitely haven't run out of things to do
I just got an email from the guy doing the tank. We still need to sort out where to put the vent (the tank is pretty shallow in front of the cap and there's not much space for a vent), but it's looking good so far...

That's really nice metalwork, where did you get the recessed insert in the end ? ( the vent I used on my Harris had a screw thread so you could weld a threaded insert into the tank just in front of the cap)

The guy got the insert for me as it worked out a bit cheaper. It's from SCP (Schwegler Chopper Parts) in Switzerland. The vent I have has two parts that screw into each other with the tank sandwiched in the middle. The bottom part that goes in the tank has a floating ball in it that seals the vent when it's submersed. It's just a bit too long, should be pretty simple to shorten or replace though.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with his work. The tank is done now. The bung for the valve is a bit higher than I would have liked, but it should look fine when painted and there is very little room under that part of the tank. I didn't want to mount it off to the side as I'll be running a vent hose to the steering stem and that would have looked a bit wierd.
I can shorten the bung a bit if I take a few threads off the top of the valve (the bung is basically a replacement for the bottom part of the valve and there is easily enough thread there to shorten it a bit). I'll wait to see how it looks with a bit of black primer first, will probably be fine.
I think I'll paint the outer ring of the cap the same colour as the tank to slim it down a bit - it looks pretty huge at the moment.

It won't look as big on the bike with the top tripple and handlebars to take your eye from it, fine looking tank job

That's some nice welding mate... I'm putting a breather in my tank as well, i'm going to have a small "box" {square instead of round like you've done}, to hold the breather fitting, made from the metal removed to fit the twin filler i'm using , I was thinking of just drilling a couple of small holes in the tank and welding the small "box" to hold the breather fitting, instead of cutting a hole that same size as the "Box" or raised mount. I was thinking about fuel surge under brakes and stopping fuel being pushed into the breather hose. Does that make sense ?
Can you explain your fitting ?

14 Aug 2022 23:02I have used an inline valve on my Harris and it didn't work properly, under heavy braking it dumped fuel all over the front wheel. I switched to the type posted here and had no more problemsA inline check valve will cure the fuel spilling....
