Re: 1977 KZ1000 Restomod
04 Apr 2021 03:39Nothing more done on the actual build over the winter as i've been laid up after having a knee op and there's no heating in the workshop .Thanks Zed1015, your jig is almost exactly what I was alluding to earlier in this thread... Any more progress on the Moriwaki ?
Plenty of parts waiting in the wings though for both bikes and still need a lot of stuff for the turbo..
Think the Racecrafters will get finished first though as there's not much more i need for that and it's a fairly simple build.
As soon as i make any progress it usually gets posted on there the same day..

Still waiting on my wheels so I can figure out where the shock mounts need to go. Been keeping busy with the Zephyr but did get the new rearsets so I chucked them on to see if I could bend my knees enough to get my feet on them. The ended up being perfect, don't even need a higher seat (6'1" with long legs so I sometimes have problems). Need to make a bracket for the rear master cylinder as it the bracket is made for a ZX-9R cylinder. I printed a couple out at school to test before I sent the final model off to a friend with a CNC machine.
Got a new ignition cover - think it's going to end up with a kiwi engraved on it.

Some goodies arrived last week. I wanted to mount the tires on the weekend and realised I had ordered the front tire in the worng size! I ordered it at the same time as the tires for the Zephyr and must have got mixed up. New tire should be here tomorrow, and the boy now has a replacement for the front when he burns through his Pirelli's.

Re: 1977 KZ1000 Restomod
28 Apr 2021 13:56Yeah, they were. I wanted a hub for the ZRX forks and brake discs and getting the front hub made was actually cheaper than I thought it would be. By the time I totalled everything up getting the rear hub made didn't really make much more of a dentwere they made up specially for you?
The rear hub takes a gsx-r brake disc and has the sprocket offest to match the front. Technically the rear hub will be a bit lighter as well, but I'm not really worried about weight too much - I can take some off the rider if need be
They weren't exactly cheap but I'm stoked with how they turned out.

They are tasty looking, i was looking into these guys, the wheels look solid and a price that is not too crazy but its for a project a bit down the line so im hopping that their range increases to include a few more makes for their conversion kits. This is a link of the wheels i was looking at. Do you mind if i ask who made these?

Re: 1977 KZ1000 Restomod
28 Apr 2021 21:38 - 28 Apr 2021 21:38I got them from RF-Biketech here in Germany - they made the hubs, my triples and my rearsets, they sent the hubs off somewhere else to be laced. If you take sales tax and the discount they gave me into account the wheels were only a bit more expensive than the one you linked. Add to that the fact that the hubs were made to my specs and the sprocket holder, dampers and all the bearings were included - makes the price almost bearableThey are tasty looking, i was looking into these guys, the wheels look solid and a price that is not too crazy but its for a project a bit down the line so im hopping that their range increases to include a few more makes for their conversion kits. RF-Biketech have some pretty crazy KZ1000 mods - some not really to my taste (320 rear tires!), but they know what they're doing: www.rf-biketech.com/galerie/kawasaki/

I am curious about that external belt drive apparatus on the side of the Zephyr engine. They show a ZRX 1100 with one on the side where the cam chain lives. Is this some custom cam drive system?

I did think that might be the case - there doesn't seem to be anything connecting it to any part of the engine except the ignition...
