81 kz750 e2 back to original was created by M_a_t_t
I bought an 81 kz750 e2 with 45,000 miles on it. I haven't completely decided what direction I want to take with it (complete strip down, or just get it running and riding again). I'm pretty sure that it is far from original as far as cosmetics and there is some highway pegs that definitely aren't original. One side is clamped to the frame and the other is welded. I only paid $360 for it with title so I don't have a whole lot invested in it yet. The first thing I want to do is verify what the bike is supposed to look like. I think depending on money and availability I might reuse the non original tank and seat and things and as I find and buy the original parts I will swap them over.

Frame number is JKAKZDE19BA025722
Engine number is KZ750EE053450
My bike, side covers and fender match, it's hard to see in the dark picture B) :

I think I've found an original picture of the model, if someone could confirm please :)

Terrible thing to have done to a bike that was supposed to be a 'sporty bike' at the time...…, love your garage, it looks so 'living-roomy" and cozy.

Some EB pics I've saved.

ps: I know it's your motorcycle, but I wouldn't paint it green. Often times non-stock colors just don't look right. :)

I was planning on repainting it grey with red and blue pinstripes. Depending on if I get a stock tank or not will determine what I do with the paint scheme of the current tank, but I want to repaint the fender and side covers original even if it doesn't match the current tank.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThis tank looks pretty nice.

BTW, you might want to check the build thread linked in my signature...

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThis tank is a lot cheaper but has rust. Good news is that the photos showing the bottom look good; no suggestion of rust perforation. It would take a fair bit of work to bring it back but my guess is that this tank is salvageable. Strip the paint and soak it in a tub with diluted phosphoric acid. I've save way worse before.

I am working on rebuilding the rear master and I can't get the piston stop to come out. I got the clip out, but the washer piece wont come loose. Is there anything besides soaking that I should try? There is no tension on it from the spring, the pushrod is just flopping around right now.

I'd push it back(the piston) and clean the bore well and check for burrs that it might be hanging up on.

I don't have a plan and I'm sticken' to it! '77 KZ 650 / 750 GPz custom project in progress

Its not moving at all. (Assuming I know how this works) The piston is moving, but the stop won't come out for me to get access to the piston.

There should be a circlip (#6) and a washer that hold the push rod #9 in end of bore Position.
Are you sure you have remove the circlip #6. A parts diagram can be wrong in the parts sequence.
Clean the outer MC bore , there must be a circlip under the dirt!!!

I got it out already. I can run a small screwdriver all the way around the groove for the clip.
