Very cool build. I'm watching intently. That bike how you found it is a weird combination of very stock stuff that most bikes this age don't have anymore, and just plain different stuff that I've never seen. Wakt out definitely fits it. Please keep the stock paint you never see those. And proceed and post pictures, I can't wait to see what you do. so far so good

I see why you wanted a new one!
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Thanks fellas.

Yea this bike has a strange last. I’m guessing the exhaust is aftermarket. I think redline sells the same one.

More in store shortly. I’ve been working out of town a lot lately but I’m sort of obsessing over getting this bike right.

I’m certainly keeping the original color. I’m thinking black side covers tho since I need the right side.

Removed the bent garbage fork today. Also went a little nuts with the cut off wheel. modified rear fender. removed passenger pegs. Bandit swing arm hits them.

More pics to come this afternoon.

This engine must have ran like shit all the way till it didn't.

#2 rings were so stuck i had to pull the wrist pin, leave the piston in the cylinder and remove the entire assembly. Then hammer the piston out.

Too bad I also broke off the mounting boss for the missing timing chain guide rail :(

Looking for a "new" cylinder set.

Kyle

Cleaned the block/transmission and liberally applied Por-15. now NONE of the screws will be removable. This shit is like metal when it dries. Not what I was going for.. minor mistake

NONE of the screws will be removable......

I really hope that the clutch springs that have been compressed for the last 40 years are not shot, or that the clutch plates are not badly worn, or that there are no bent shift forks, or bad transmission gears or bearings, or broken parts of the missing chain tensioner in there, or scum clogging the oil pump screen, or ..........................

I have had the covers off so the screws will come out with a little work. I should have done this properly and taken apart the engine. Wont do it again, i promise.

Now on to color choices. I wanted to go with the Ducati red but my lady loves the Kawasaki deep blue. I’m not a purist as is obvious so I may use a custom color.
