All Gpz750R1 where delivered with red wheels, regardless of where they were delivered.
Golden rims where found on Z models and the ELR

Beautiful bike. I'm going through a '81 750E2 but it will never be as cool as your '82.

How smooth is the engine? The GPZ received rubber engine mounts compared to my '81. I've got a set of rubber mounts but can't decide if I want to go through the hassle of welding on the frame so they can be used.

Yes Australia delivered with red wheels and I agree with Mcdroid that US models I have seen had black wheels and also to my eye a much nicer abbreviated rear mud guard.
As far as engine smoothness on rubber mounts, there is much less vibration through grips than my kz550 and very comfortable to ride but you still get a light distortion of mirrors at some cruising speeds as typical inline 4.
