82' KZ1100-A1... (CL snag/field find)
28 Jul 2014 13:36
82' Kawasaki KZ1100D Spectre (KZ1100-A1) (CL snag/field find)
June 26th...
Added another ride to the stable!
Yes... found in a field, behind a house in rural W. WA. No title, no keys, lotsa work... but I'm stoked!
Brakes are sorta tight and hard to roll. Tags say MAR 06'. Got it on the cheap-Cheap-CHEAP! We'll see where this takes me...
Tank IS NOT salvageable. Even still has 1/2 a tank of fuel (AKA "SOMETHING!") in it!
Am now in search of a replacement tank.
Just joined the liter club, again. We'll see how long till she's running, on the road or parts...

July 10th...
Well, here's where I started. Figured I needed to see what that buzzing was all about...
Got the killer spray out and covered it with a bag.
The lil' bastards r DEAD!
Got the seat up and discovered 2 pluss', got the toolkit and the registration of the last(?) owner? 06'... WOOHOO!!!

July 14th...
OK... good news and great news.
The good news: I found the last registered owner, but he's like a 90 min (one way) drive. So I hop in the Subie @ noon, drive to Ocean Shores WA and I'm back home by 4p.
Now the GREAT NEWS: I have an "Affidavit in Lieu of Title"! I'll be getting paper on this rescue really soon! Just turned a "pocket change investment" in to a ride worth having! Now to get on the ball!!! WOOHOO!!!!!

July 20th
Well, spent a few hours this evening... and did the following:
- Pulled the headlight.
- Pulled the gauge cluster.
- Pulled both controls. Have to run thru them and do some cleanup, ect...
- Pulled the tail and rear inner fender. More cleanup.
- Loosened everything under the seat so I could move the air box back and pull the carbs. (what a pita)
- Pulled the carbs... and will need to get new carb boots (14073-1055) and carb holders (16065-1135). Boots are rocks and may as well make the reinstall easier by replacing the holders.
DANM! It took me almost 2 hrs to loosen everything and get the carbs out!! But sitting with fuel in them, since 06', tells me that the carbs will need some extra attention.

July 22nd
Carbs are off... Tough shape outside, but all intact! Gutted PICs to come...
No cleaning needed, just paint everything green and pass it off as PNW moss!!! LOL

Awesome find! That will certainly clean up nice because the moss has protected the finish... wow. Keep us posted on your progress. Those carbs don't look bad at all.

Thanks Guys... Yea, I'm stoked! Out working on this in the evening, as of late. It was 90+ in W. WA today. Those in the south may think this is nothing, but people in FLA may understand... I think the humidity was well over 70%! Bad mix!
LineArtist... No power wash here. I'm ol'school and wash/clean by hand. Lots to be done on this one, still. Going thru each and every system! Actually, the carbs/bowls are quite clean... still gonna Pinesol them, for me a proven method.
bluezbike... Thanks, I'll holler @ him. But know that many of the tanks were somewhat specific to the model/year. We'll see if this will work. But for now, if this fits, I'll use it. Thanks again! ...email sent. Didn't fit! )o:
Don't really care about the style... actually, would like to find a 5gal KZ1000ST tank, with the knee dents. Luv'd that tank!
Still on the search for a tank that is 5.25" between the front standoffs and 20.5", on center, from a front standoff to the back post.

Fuel tank fitment. From the diagrams at Partzilla the Spectre fuel tank has a tab at the rear that fits into a damper. The CSR & 82 Police tanks are bolted at the rear, so they won't have a tab. It may not matter, though.... my disclaimer. hee....

Yea, I saw that. Guess I'm gonna be more picky about the front mounts and the tunnel area. Tried a few tanks already... like my 750-F1 tank... and the tunnel doesn't always work, they are usually too small. )o:

OK... sorry I've not been around much. It's the summer for projects. Got a huge one just finished...
So, now that the big project is DONE, things are starting to settle down and I've finished with my "musical bikes" game... it's time to get a few things started.
More to come... as time permits!
