WOW your bike looks fantastic !!! I'm doing a rebuild here in the US on a 1981 KZ1000-J1 and just finished the engine rebuild. The frame is ready for install this week. I did purchase a European gasket set for this particular bike and engine and some of the gaskets needed a bit of work before they would fit properly, most notably the cylinder to valve train gaskets and the air reed valve gaskets (I don't think you have these on the European models). Keep up the info and I will load some when I can. I do have 3 carbs from a US model if you need parts lol. I know 3 won't do you much good for your 4 cylinder. How did you get those carbs so clean ?

Thanks Aquaholic and thanks for the offer but my carbs are done and in now.Im pretty sure that the washers I cut will do the job. The carbs will have to come off again later for more tuning but for now they should be good to get the engine running.
Eric,I already have a box like that and I did try o-rings but I didnt have the right thickness for the diameter and as Leon points out the originals are more like washers (straight sides) rather than o-rings (round sides).
As soon as I fill er up, well see if A; The tank repair was a success and B; If the carb gaskets and rings are suitable!
I might need to stand the bike in a big bucket!!

Well boys and girls, IT LIVES!!!!!!!!
I got it started today.Well chuffed. 2 1/2 years or so building. So nice to press the button and hear if fire up. Fantastic.
On the down side,it still dosnt run yet. It idles perfectly but as soon as I give it throttle it dies.So ill be taking the carbs off again. Any advice on how to set them up would be welcome.( 1070 Wiseco, K&N filters and a Harris 4into1 with a race baffle.).
Other than that Ive got to fit the chain and fart around with the clutch spacing. And the most important part. The stickers!!!!

P.S.So far the tank and the carbs are both sound and not leaking.

Thanks Eric. Its amazing how quick it goes once you get to the last bits. I dont know what plugs I have. The tuner fitted them.Ill have a look next week.
Today,I farted around with the clutch.I ended up making a couple of alu spacers to move the MC out a bit.

Everything is fitted and bled now but I cant know how itll work until Ive got the bike moving. So thats it for now as far as the clutch goes.
I also got the chain fitted and tensioned as best I could.still planning to do something with the swingarm at a later point.
Stickers stuck!

Some other bits and bobs done as well and Im pretty much there.I gave it a clean and took some pictures.

So,thats that. Theres still work to do.The clutch and the swingarm but the main thing is to tune the carbs and get it running. Thatll be happening....eventually. For now,Im done. Ive started clearing out the workshop and bringing my tools home. Now Ive got to find somewhere to store the bike until springtime.

Ill post updates as they happen and I thought to maybe do a list of resources that Ive used during the build.Maybe itll be helpful to others.
